Description: Going ten years strong with a menu designed to make mouths water and a location that embodies Gainesville's Downtown area, Big Lou's NY Style Pizzeria comes from humble beginnings. As many local start-ups do, Lou's developed into the reputable pizza spot it is today through a patient process. Lou Wynn, or "Big Lou" himself, is originally from South Florida but was no stranger to Gainesville. Graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in Health Science, Lou eventually decided to pursue the food industry. He was so inspired to build up his own restaurant (with the help of his supportive wife, Mary) that he was willing to do whatever it took to make it work - and even went as far as selling his car to pay for the original costs. Biking to work for the first few months of business is a whole new level of dedication... Nearly one decade and thousands of pizzas later, Lou's is constantly growing (currently under renovation!) While staying true to its warm and welcoming hometown roots. With a close group of team members, fun atmosphere and fresh ingredients that make our variety of menu items so satisfying, we promise any Lou's experience to leave you happy, full, and excited to come back again.

“Food was good, but....”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

My wife and I, along with some extended family members went here on December 7th, 2012. The salad the brought my niece needed help - the lettuce was bad. Waiter was cool about it and brought her a fresh salad. We ordered a side of garlic rolls, which were freaking amazing - Big Lou's marinara sauce is really good.

We also ordered a large pizza. The pizza itself was very good as well. Good flavor, cooked right with the right amount of ingredients. Just really a good pizza.

My problem with Big Lou's isn't with the food - it's the cleanliness. The restroom floors were black. There was dirt and grime up two feet on the walls in the restrooms. I almost felt like I needed a tetanus shot after being in there.

The only reason I'm giving Big Lou's 3 out of 5 is because the food was VERY good. I'll go back, but, before I order I'll check out the restrooms first. If they look as bad as they did on our first trip, I'l leave...

“Great local pizza and salad”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

The salad is above average with freshness and size and the pizza is made to order just as good. Great outdoor seating to provide a bit of fresh air and people watching.

“thin-crust pizza”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

I was there with a friend to dine. I usually ask something like a NY pizza, a very simple version, similar to Italian Pizza Margherita. It was a good pizza, a little bit sweet. The staff was nice, in my opinion is a good place to go before or after cinema or theatre.

“Good stuff”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Big Lou's is the best place to get pizza in downtown Gville. There are even a couple bars (Tall Paul's and House of Beer) that you can bring a pizza to, and this is the perfect place to order it from for those purposes.
Solid pizza and probably the #3 pizza place in Gville - (sorry, just can't compare to Satchel's and Blue Highway). But #3 is nothing to be ashamed of!

“Giant slices and a great taste of Gainesville”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

You'll find all sorts of folks here - students, lawyers, jurors, tourists....enjoying pizza and salads.

The day we went one of the specials was a slice and a salad. They were both good and either would have been plenty for a lighter appetite. Portions are quite generous. But, they were so good we ate our way through both.

The service is quick and competent - perhaps because some people need to get back to the courthouse which is just across the street. Because it's downtown, parking can be an issue but it is well worth the effort to get there. On nice days, you can dine on the patio.
