Owner description: Herb and botanical garden displaying unusual plants from around the world.

I wish the cashier had pointed out the bug spray before we left for our walk. Mine was at the hotel, of course. If you head toward the herb garden (which was looking a little sad and unloved), you're walking on a small concrete walkway through hot humid Florida scrub which is covered with blood seeking mosquitoes. There are a few places to sit (not a lot if you've got back problems or walking issues or are elderly), but they are all mosquito feeding stations. It wasn't until the lily pad pond with all the dragonflies keeping the mosquitoes at bay that we could stop and sit for a minute and enjoy the breeze.

When we were there, some of the plantings were looking neglected. I expect a botanical garden to be a little more formal and less wild. There is a lovely area overlooking a lake that seems to be the place for weddings, as they were preparing for another wedding while we were there.

Don't let my comments deter you from going. Just be prepared. This is a pleasant walk and there were labels on most of the plants by the sidewalks so you learn the names of a variety of plants. I wish they had had a little more than just the name.

There is always something in bloom or to mesmerize you. There are flowers and butterflies everywhere. Lots of diversity: winding paths with mild hills and a scenic overlook of Lake Kanapaha. Don't forget to purchase your fish food at the entrance if you have kids--a blast and a must.
The best place in North Florida to see the change in seasons.

Enjoy and don't miss it!

A place to visit over and over again. Many speciality gardens to see. Relaxed 1-2 hour walk. Summer is time for most blooming plants, but also has highest humidity and mosquitoes. I prefer fall, winter and spring.

This garden is a real treat and surprisingly beautiful, especially at times of the year when there is exceptional blooms. The special events are worth going to as well, especially the Moonlight Walk once a year. There are lovely ponds, a small waterfall, gazebos, the wedding tree, asian type gardens as well as educational gardens that detail each and every plant. If you go in the summer, make sure to stay hydrated, it can be very hot and not alot of shade.

My husband and I chose Kanapaha Botanical Gardens for our wedding on September 14, 2013. I would highly recommend this beautiful location. Everyone was awed by the bamboo cathedral area we chose for the ceremony. Their reception area and kitchen worked out great too for our large group of 120. They were very accommodating with special requests as well. We're so glad we picked this location!
