This is effectively a restaurant with a pub attached, and is a firm favourite in both its roles with locals as well as visitors. The menu changes quite frequently, with the current specials easily visible on blackboards, often detailing locally reared meats.

As regulars, we find the quality of the cooking, plate presentation and table service to be consistently well above average - we can't remember having a duff meal there at all. There is always a staggeringly wide choice of starters and fish or meat dishes available, especially since this is a relatively modest sized enterprise and food is clearly freshly prepared.

My one reservation is on the choice available for vegetarians. This is usually limited to a single main course dish, or maybe another to be served without its meat component! This isn't acceptable nowadays, especially since so many carnivores are also happy to eat meat-free meals if they are interesting and well presented, as they so easily can be. So perhaps you could apply your considerable talents over a slightly wider horizon, Jamie?

With that one minor qualm aside, we always enjoy a Kings Head lunch - and we love the 2 courses for £12.50 charge!

Booked a table for 4 on a Friday and we had an excellent evening. The 2 course menu (starter and main) isn't extensive but it is sufficiently varied to provide a reasonable and balanced choice. However, the 2 course menu does tempt you into a third course which may be too much if you are used to small portions. Also, some of the sauces are very rich - but nevertheless tasty! I really enjoyed my beef and mushroom pie which was full of flavour and the cheesecake was light and delicious. My friends also enjoyed their selections and we found the prices very fair - the evening overall was good value for the money. We would recommend booking and beware that the car park is quite small.

I found the food very expensive for what you got.And its decor is very clinical we waited a good ten minutes before any one came to sever us and was just for a drink & they was not cheap we was going to have lunch until we had seen the price of a sandwich. And from what food we did see I would not have paid the price

four adults booked a table at this pub/restaurant sat 21st sept it was easy to find on the main street of a quinticential english village, the car park was ample and no trouble, walking into the place and finding the reception was easy, we was welcomed with a smile from a young lady and shown to our table we was asked for our drinks preference straight away and was given the menu, the drinks arrived quickly which is always a good sign however the menu needs rewriting because the menu was for a two coarse meal for example if you wanted a fillet steak you had to order it off a chalk board which splits your choice and the chalk board was illegable from our side of the room which always needs a stroll over to veiw it never like this type of idea when selecting food the best thing is just put everything on the menu and chop out the 2 coarse thing one other comment which is very important is cater more for vegitarians like my wife, we found the choice very limited all 4 of us found the food well cooked with ample portions the fillit steak was georgous price wise drinks and meals came to £100 £25 per head about middle of the road the only thing i would say is that £22 for a pub fillet steak is top end of the scale remember its a pub mainly, not a full blown restaurant final comment is would we go back most definately

Sunday lunch with family.

The service was good, the food very good, the décor - well, not so much. It's not that it's bad, or dirty, or tired - it's none of these things - it's just that it's a bit bland and soul-less. Collingham is a picturesque little village, but the pub's interior would feel more at home in a big city.

The food, on the other hand, was marvellous. This is everything I want in a Sunday lunch; a tasty but modestly-sized starter, and a tender roast with delicious vegetables and spuds. I had the lamb, and it was melting and flavoursome. The Yorkshire was crisp and amply-sized, and the veg and potato helpings were both high quality and excellently judged; we left very little.

And the pudding - well, the rhubarb crème brulee was simply delicious.
