Staff was helpful with novice saltwater fisherman. Prices were high for pole rental so I passed. I used my own medium action 6'8" & 7' freshwater bass poles. Overpriced tackle too. go to walmart first and buy pompano pro rig and 2 oz triangle weight.

Caught some fish and had a lot of fun! They sell frozen bait there for fair price. You can bring cooler and drinks on pier. no need for fishing license. $7 to fish all day and it was $2 to walk on pier.

Used sand fleas at night and shrimp durning day on pompano rigs. Caught several verities of fish and the local guys on pier explained what they were. It can get a bit crowded, but people were nice.

The sea weed had rolled in when we got there but was almost clear when left four days later. It is more local centric than most gulf beaches.

For last four years been going to Okaloosa island and staying in a condo there for a week, beautiful beaches, awesome clean waters, lots of things to do, shopping, restaurants, parasailing,
banana boat rides, dolphin tours, but just getting to watch a family of dolphins swim past in mornings and back again in evenings just adds to the pleasure, Very highly recommended.

I have experienced the beaches of Thailand but when I moved to Southern Alabama and made a day trip to the beach at Okaloosa Island, I was in awe. Soft white sand. Turquoise water. Clear blue skies. It is a sight to behold. There is a fee to use the lounge and umbrella they have set up along the beach but it's not very expensive. You can bring food and drink (not 100% sure about if alcohol was allowed). There are public piers where you can go if you are not staying at a hotel. They do have a family outhouse that you can change in or use (they aren't the cleanest things so where shoes). It's not crowded in the off season (I went in March and May). Can't wait to go again.

We live in Fort Walton area & visit Okaloosa Island several times over the summer & winter. Best time usually is April when water is free from jellyfish, seaweed, etc & sun is warm (also best month to get very sunburned for some reason too). Waters clear up again around October. Beaches are always Snow White & you can walk without burning your feet on the sand. If you go to the end of the island there is one more public beach access near the Matador Codos, that is less crowded most of the time especially in busy summer months (has bathrooms & outdoor showers also). Turn & walk to the right once on the beach if you want a walk on the beach away from crowds or turn to the left & walk towards pier if you want to people watch. Schools of stingrays can be seen jumping in water, as well as dolphins, occasional sharks, lots of birds including terns, pelicans, seagulls, gannets, sandpipers, plovers, herons, etc. ghost crabs skitter across the sand in summer & fall, especially at dusk. Sunsets more brilliant & colorful end of summer & fall & with storms. Much less traffic than Destin, a little more affordable, better beaches than Destin because there is more beach (distance from walkover to wet sand). Winters you have beach all to yourself. Very peaceful!
