Fun in the sun for all! Really nice beach right here, great long fishing pier, some really great restaurants here. (See my review of the Crab Trap!

My husband and I have been travelling to this location for four years and we thoroughly enjoy it. Although we usually reserve our condo prior to our arrival, there are numerous buildings on Santa Rosa Blvd. that always have units available for rent. Views of the Gulf of Mexico from our balcony are absolutely spectacular and on a good day, if you are lucky, you may see schools of dolphins jumping the waves. The residents of Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach are friendly and gracious and they welcome tourists to their community. Valparaiso Airport which is a ten minute drive from the island is located on the Eglin Air Force Base; the military are a very active component of this city. Among the many shopping malls, Silver Sands Factory Outlet is the largest in the area and it is situated on the Emerald Coast Parkway in Destin, 15 minutes outside of Fort Walton Beach. Restaurants, numerous tourist attractions, movie theaters and beaches are in abundance. If you choose this location to have 'fun in the sun' you surely won't regret it.

All of your water fun is available there. Parasailing, fishing, pontoon rentals, etc. We took a half day boat from there called Swoop. Also shopping there.

The only ways to get to Okaloosa Island, in NW Florida is either via Highway 98 or by boat. Basically Okaloosa Island is a barrier island, a sand dune, between the mainland of Northwest Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. It has two sides: the Gulf side, with pretty decent waves, and the Sound side, with very little wave action. The sand is white. There are several parks with boardwalks (on the Gulf side) from the parking lots to the beaches or just directly from the parking lot to the beach. The boardwalk at Beasley Park is wheelchair friendly with a built in observation deck. There are seagulls, sandpipers, and sea grass. Do not walk on the dunes, they are protected.

The island is where most visitors go to for swimming and fishing.
