The Harbor Branch just south of Vero off U.S. 1 is a hidden gem. Take the time when you can to see a world class Oceanographic site. Don't miss it.

Interesting and informative. These people do great work with marine life in and near the inland waterway. Guided cruises are available, but confirm ahead.

I remember going here as a kid and going on the tours but since the hurricanes caused a lot of damages the tours have not yet re-started. However, they had the exploration center open when we drove down. Upon arrival there is a huge (fake) shark jaw outside that the kids immediately wanted their picture taken with them standing inside of it! Once we got inside the tour guide had us watch a movie about a dolphin that was rescued and the kids really enjoyed it, surprisingly. They are 6 & 7 and I did not expect them to get it. Once the movie was over we moved to a touch tank that had several ocean creatures in it. The kids got to touch them, including a huge hermit crab that crawled halfway out of his shell in defense mode and then kicked himself back inside, something I hadn't even ever seen in person. We really enjoyed the kid/family friendly atmosphere here. Our visit was educational and fun for all of us, adults and kids.
