“Back to the Mellon Patch!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

We stayed at the Mellon Patch a decade ago while visiting family in the Ft.Pierce area. This trip we were delighted to meet the brand new owners, Emily and Rich.Their location is great - right across the street from a public beach access and the Navy Seal museum with a little pier on the waterway in their back yard. I even saw a blue crab skiddle into the water. Our room and bed were comfy - new flat screen TV, complimentary wi-fi, push the button 'way early' coffee was available. Emily prepared a tasty Belgium waffle with fresh fruit and sausage for our breakfast. Happy that we had the opportunity to visit with both of them over breakfast and share our stories.

The property was in a bit of a renovation phase, as they are putting in a pool and spa. Even so, a very comfortable stay. The owner, Kathy, is serious about cleanliness and very available to her guests. And she's very creative. The pics on the websites don't do the property justice - it's a bit eclectic while very comfortable and tastefully Floridian, with a spectacular great room. Breakfast was different each morning. All the fruit was fresh and luscious. Kathy's cooking was homey, healthy and tasty. Great stay!

Room Tip: We loved the diamond room. It was upstairs and away from any activity. Big roman tub and spacious su...

Spent three nights at this location (Feb.10-12) Kathy was very welcoming and provided great service. The room was clean, attractive, and comfortable. Air conditioning/heater worked perfectly. Breakfasts were super - bacon, waffles, fruit, eggs all delicious and most generous servings.

Very reasonably priced option and a pretty location. The owner is also a caterer and justice of the peace and the inn is used for weddings and events. Breakfast was very tasty and apporiately sized. Coffee and refrigerator available 24 hours. Rooms are colorful and "beachy".

Room Tip: The inn is located back from a road with little traffice.

We visited the Mellon Patch Inn with my parents to celebrate an early Christmas, Dec 2011. This is a lovely, quiet bed and breakfast. We stayed in the Tropical Paradise Room - nicely decorated with murals of parrots, flowers, etc. It had a king size bed, a refrigerator and was on the ground floor. My parents stayed upstairs - I think it was the Seaside Serenity Room (no refrig, queen bed). The beds were very comfortable. We appreciated the extra touch of having mini Christmas trees in each room. It made it very Christmasy - along with the full size one in the living room. The rate was $129/night.

The Inn is right across from Pepper Park which has free access to the beach and free parking. There's also lighted tennis courts & a volleyball court (on sand) at the park. The beach was deserted when we arrived on Tuesday. We saw flocks of seagulls and tiny sandpipers eager for handouts. There was a lifeguard on duty.

When we arrived at the Inn, Cathy greeted us and gave us free tickets to the Navy Seal Museum, which is very close by. She also asked if we needed any restaurant recommendations. We went to the ones she recommended and they were all very good (Chuck's Seafood, Yianni's Greek Cafe and Harbor Cove). We loved Yianni's - a great family run restaurant with authentic Greek food and reasonable prices ($30 for 4 for lunch). We discovered by accident a Jazz Jam at the Sunrise Theatre on Tues nights for $5 (right around the corner from Yianni's). It was a great show! Lots of local musicians - retired folks, music teachers and students on break from college. FYI: jazzsociety.org listed the show whereas the sunrisetheatre.com did not.

We met Chris and Kevin, a couple that work with Cathy. They were also very helpful during our stay. Kevin cooked breakfast for us on both days. One day we had 1/2 Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, 2 sausage links and sliced melon. The next day we had scrambled eggs, 2 slices of bacon with sliced melon, strawberries and croissants. I was kind of surprised at how simple breakfast was (since they advertise themselves as caterers). The portions were sufficient for me, but my husband said he went away hungry (he's a big guy). Once breakfast was served, our hosts disappeared. I would have liked to chat with them and my husband might have asked for seconds! :)

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were delightfully decorated, the place was quiet, the beds were comfortable and the atmosphere was relaxing!

Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs, be sure to ask for a ground room. All the rooms are a good choice.

A friend & I spend a wonderful weekend at The Mellon Patch Inn. What a great place. Something for everyone. We got to de-stress the entire weekend. The place is beautiful, looks like a tropical paradise. The owners, Cathy & Bud are the BEST! Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: We took a tour of the rooms, all are GREAT!!!

My husband and I where visiting realitives this Feb and had the pleaure of our first B&B. My sister in law had made the arrangements and although we arrived later then expected she had the key. We let ourselves into a lovely open common room. So delightfully decorated with Floridian colors. As it was late we saw no other people although ther were cars in the yard. We let ourselves into a very large room with a oversized king bed (so comfortable!!!) and a hugh bath. The next morning Kathy was there cooking our breakfast we enjoyed a delightful conversation with her, some friends of her's and the other guest. The breakfast was wonderful. Perfectly cooked. Although I have to say I enjoyed the secpnd mornings breakfast (eggs Benedict) even more. My Husband and I stay 3 nights one as delightful as the other. I would recomend to friends and family
