DiamondHead Beach Resort
Ranked #9 of 47 Hotels in Fort Myers Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 8, 2007

Just got back from 9 days at the Diamondhead Beach Resort. Hotel was clean, staff was friendly and courteous and very accommodating. The beach area is nice and just steps from the rooms.
The beach bar and grill (cabanas): food not very tasty, bland and service was pretty poor.
Chloes: Dinner was excellent and service was great, however, breakfast there was quite different. I don't know what kind of breakfast sausage they use, but I have never tasted anything so bad in my life. I took breakfast to go up to the room for my husband and he asked why the sausage tasted so terrible, so I know it wasn't just me. there was quite a difference in quality and service between breakfast and dinner at Chloes.
We used Holiday Watersports located at Diamonhead and they were fantastic. Kelly who runs the booth and the boys who work there were wonderful every day.
We had a beachfront suite (#409) and the view was terrific. However, I don't think there is a single suite at Diamonhead where you can't view the Gulf. Sooooo, don't know if it was worth it, price wise, to upgrade to an ocean view. No matter where you are, you have a good view.
Housekeeping was wonderful, efficient and timely. Upon arriving in our suite, we soon received a call from the front desk asking if everything was suitable and asking if there was anything we needed.
Diamondhead is a reasonable walk to Times Square, which we soon found out was a much better walk down the beach rather than walking Estero Blvd.
All in all I would definately recommend this hotel to travelers. Just be aware and don't expect a 4 star resort. Great hotel for the price, location and size of suites. We really didn't have a single complaint the entire time we were there.

What a dingy hotel. The bathtub was clogged. The poolside tile was dirty and dingy. I don't want to stay in a hotel where my house is cleaner than the hotel.

Great hotel for what we wanted, a long three day weekend.
Hotel is located on a beautiful stretch of beach with safe , calm, shallow water.
Rooms are 675 square feet, with a seperate bedroom , lounge with kitchen and sofa bed. Huge balconies with great views.
Patio bar and food is the only thing that lets the resort down, although they have a more upscale restaurant and bar, Chloes, on the first floor, but there are tons of eating options within a short walk or drive.

We stay 5 nights at Diamondhead, What a great hotel. I think its one of the nicest hotels in Fort Myers Beach. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel is located in the middle of the stores and restaurants. Housekeeping was great, wash our floors every day. There was a lot of kids at the hotel, but my boyfriend and I still had a romantic time.

My husband and I spent 5 nights here in May/06 for the rest of our vacation after a wedding in Baton Rouge. We wanted relaxation on the ocean and that's exactly what we got! Our room was on the 12th floor with fabulous panoramic views of the ocean. It was screened in with table and chairs so we were able to have dinner out there and enjoy the sunsets. We had a one bedroom suite which included a king sized bed, a kitchen, a sofabed and tv. Everything was clean and well-kept and the style was up to date. One thing about the location is that it isn't close to that many restaurants and it is necessary to have a car here. Also, at the time, the beach was experiencing red tide which made it kind of hard to get in the ocean, but that wasn't the hotel's fault. The pool was clean and warm and looked right out to the ocean. What more could you ask for?!!

Great location and a fantastic beach. That's all for the positives. This is not a "resort" by any stretch of the imagination. The "suites" are as basic as you can get. The bed and sofa were both very stiff and uncomfortable. The sheets and towels were very poor quality. The staff was pretty much invisible the entire 5 days we were there. The pool was nice, but the drinks and food at the cabana bar were nothing special and with the invasion of the "love bugs" during our stay the entire facility looked very unsanitary.

Do not accept a room on the second floor -- this is where the laundry and housekeeping are and they drag stuff in and out all day and into the evening on carts with what sounds like metal wheels. The view does not make up for the noise.

Check the NOAA website for information about the water quality BEFORE you book. The property will not advise you of issues with "red tide" and other water issues.

We just returned from a week stay at the Diamond Head Beach resort and overall found the experience very pleasing. We had a one bedroom gulf-view suite that was really nice. We were traveling with a 10-month old and the hotel was able to provide us with both a travel crib and highchair for our room. The room was an exact replica of the room featured on the hotels website so you can look at the website and know exactly what to expect.

The hotel facilities were very nice especially when compared to the surrounding inns and hotels, which seemed to be much older and rundown. The pool area was very nice and we never had any trouble finding a poolside chair although we were traveling during the off-season. The ocean is just steps away from this hotel, which makes things easier if you are traveling with young children. They do rent beach chairs and umbrellas for $25 bucks a day, but you could easily just go and buy some chairs at Wal-Mart in Fort Myers. We ate at the poolside bar at lunch and found the food to be good. We also ate dinner at Chloe's and felt it was one of the better resteraunts in Fort Myers.

This property was probably the nicest on this part of the island. I will say that Fort Myers is somewhat of an older beach community and is a little rundown in places. The "Times Square" area was pretty rundown and there are a few rundown bars on the strip that I had no interest in visiting. In my opinion the Diamond Head resort is one of the nicest on the south end of the island and it is very reasonably priced. If you are looking for the best property on Fort Myers you should probably look to the Gull Wing resort, which was beautiful. We took a look at a couple of properties on Fort Meyers and would definitely rate the DiamondHead in the top three right up there with Pink Shell and Gullwing. The Diamond Head is definitely the most affordable of the three.

If I were to return to Fort Myers I would definitely consider the Diamond Head Resort again. I would consider going back to Fort Myers during the off-season, but would never consider traveling there during "spring break". There are quite a few low priced "motels" on the strip that are bound too attract spring breakers looking to save a buck. The cheap motels combined with some rundown little bars on the strip are bound too make this a less than enjoyable vacation destination that time of the year unless you too are on spring break from college. I would definitely return to the Diamond Head during the off-season, but if I was traveling during the "peak season" I would probably opt for the Gull Wing or one of the other hotels on the north end of the island away from downtown Fort Myers Beach.
