We had the Fish House address on the GPS and were on foot trying to find this place. We ended up walking around the perimeter of the marina and came around in back of the restaurant right at 6:00 PM on a Tues. It probably is easier to get to by going through the center of the Santini Shopping Center, but it was hard to tell that was the preferred route from my GPS. Since there were just 2 of us we were seated immediately.

If you are expecting fancy china, you might want to revise your expectations or go some where else. The restaurant seems to be really trying to minimize how much their dishwasher has to clean. Our "plates" were just plastic baskets lined with a type of wax paper and the sides were in small paper cups. Presentation of a meals is one thing but the bottom line is taste and here is why it is worth eating at this restaurant. We split the Combo Platter. All the fish on the platter came out sizzling hot and each of the 3 types of seafood were very tasty. The Slaw was very good, the seasonal vegetables and hush puppies were just warm. The hush puppies weren't really warm enough to melt the butter they were served with, but they still tasted pretty good. I had the key lime pie and it was the best I've had in Florida. It was tart but also very light, not condensed and hard like most. It was worth going back for.

My wife and I ate there on February 9. It had been recommended by some folks in our condo complex. Service was good and we were seated quickly. The two for one Rum Runners were very weak and tasteless. I had a draft beer which was not cold enough for my liking and them tried a bottled beer which was too warm also. I mentioned this to the waitress but no adjustment or replacement was offered. On the plus side, the oysters on the half were the best I have had in Ft. Myer and the bacon wrapped scallops were also very good. My only suggestions are put rum in the rum runners and turn you cooler temperature down.

We have made it a tradition to go to the Fish House restaurant and bar on our first night and last night in Fort Myers Beach, and until this year, have enjoyed the place thoroughly. However, this past trip was disappointing. The meals were decent, although the waiter talked my husband into having his tuna grilled "medium rare" -- which, for a person who is not a huge fish eater, proved to be an unfortunate choice. What was most disappointing, however, was the quality of the drinks. For example, the 'rum runner' Happy Hour special is a pink frozen slushy mess tasting of cheap white rum and some kind of fruity mix (not real juice, I don't believe).

The big disappointment was what happened on our last night on the beach. We ordered a pitcher of Shock Top beer to share. When it arrived, we thought the colour was a bit off, but, as Shock Top is a naturally cloudy whit beer served with orange slices, and the late afternoon light was fading, we didn't think too much of it. We both thought it tasted a bit different from the pitcher we had shared another evening, but again, did not think too much of it.

HOWEVER, when the waitress came back to the table she asked if we had enjoyed the beer. She then told us that the bartender had made a mistake and filled up our pitcher halfway with Shock Top and half way with another draft beer, a local red beer. Apparently the keg had needed to be changed and he didn't notice that he had connected a wrong keg. The waitress seemed to think this was amusing.

We were not offered another pitcher of beer "on the house", or even a sincere apology. True, we did not make a scene about it, as we had already finished the pitcher. But in retrospect, we thought that it was unacceptable to mix together beer from two kegs -- especially two different types of beer. If the first keg had run dry, the half pitcher should have been discarded and a fresh pitcher drawn from the new keg. And to serve two different types of beer mixed together is just wrong.

Like everywhere on the island, The Fish House is very busy in the late afternoon/early evening. That is part of the fun. But busy or not, the bar staff should be conscious of what they are serving. All in all, this experience turned us off The Fish House.

We heard of this from conversation with other guests where we were staying. It is behind the very active Santini Shopping Center, in the middle of a marina. We arrived to find guests outside waiting to be seated, but by taking an inside table we were seated immediately and waited on promptly. If you want water, please ask for it.

We shared a plate of oyster coquille, broiled oysters with a topping of crab and cheese and a side salad. For dinner we each had the crunch grouper, covered in corn flakes and deep fried, just slightly too much, with the extra charge sweet potato fries. This is served with cole slaw.

The food was so hot, it was impossible to eat it immediately and you had to take tiny bites to avoid burning your mouth. The grouper was flakey and tasty, while the fries came from some of the largest sweet potatoes I've seen.

Although the place was crowded our server was attentive and we were served in a reasonable amount of time. Definitely worth a return trip.

We have been to the FMB area for several winters. Each trip, we have lunch and dinner at the Fish House several times. The atmosphere is casual, the view of the marina is nice, the service is very good, and the food is always enjoyable. Families would be comfortable at this location. It is tucked away behind a marina but is worth finding.
