We stayed in Fort Meyers Beach April 5-8, 2014. We did not get a rental car and we walked everywhere. We stayed at the Diamond Head Resort and walked easily to the Beached Whale from there.
We were looking for somewhere casual to eat outside. We were there around sunset and had to wait about 20 minutes on a Saturday night for a table at the outdoor rooftop dining. The rooftop view is one street back from the ocean, but you can still see the water and sunset.
Great atmosphere, great wait staff service.
The first night we ordered coconut shrimp and Buffalo shrimp apps, both delicious. Then around the table ordered the mussels dinner, fish tacos, grouper sandwich and fish and chips. Everyone loved what they got. The mussels were in a cream sauce that was amazing. They do something to the fish in the fish tacos like a marinade that is incredible - citrusy and so good.
The next night we made a bad food choice, so the third night out, we decided to go back to the Beached Whale. Even better service the next time around - Tiffany rocked as our waitress, very helpful with choices. We got another order of buffalo shrimp and then, shrimp tacos, grouper sandwich, fish tacos and a blackened grouper sandwich. All again delicious. The shrimp taco was spicy, but good spicy.
I highly recommend the Beached Whale. We had a great night there both times. The food was not a fluke. We were all saying a place like this could easily slack off and just serve a bunch of fried food to drunk vacationers happy to eat anything (which is what happened when we chose poorly) But not this place. Go check it out!
