“Dirty, loud and drunken community”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

I came here regularly with my family in the eighties and recall pristine beaches and an overall pleasant vibe. My husband and I made the mistake of renting a home on the north end of the island this year and were very disappointed with the current run down condition of the island. The beach is over run with loud bars and drunk people, the traffic is so heavy we couldn't leave our house and expect to return from a three mile drive in less than an hour. The environmental condition of the streets and the beach are also disappointing. The streets (at least on the north part of the island ) were littered with trash and an occasional spattering of vomit. We also found a significant amount trash, cigarettes and other items washing up on the beach. We won't be back.

“Great family beach”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

Relaxing , low waves , very shallow and perfect for younger kids to play in the gulf. The sand is white and soft. The kids loved catching snails, sand crabs and looking for shells. We enjoyed the walk down the beach to the pier and the abundance of restaurants and shops.

“A place for everyone”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

Been coming here since the 1980s and each time we find something to do, or something that was there to see and didn't know it was or had always been there. Thanks to tripadvisor the reviews have been so helpful and accurate. Most like us, probably feel, do I really want to leave the beach to see something that is not worth the time. The beach has much to see and do. The north end with its shops, nightlife, the pier, people watching, to the more residential mid island to the upscale south end which then quickly turns to Lovers Key area and its remote beaches. All in just a few miles and accessible by a public trolley. A unique place !

“A laid back oasis.”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

We discovered Fort Myers Beach last year while visiting Naples and the SW coast of Florida for the first time. This year we booked a week stay there and just got back. It was awesome. If you are looking for a fast paced lots of action vacation, don't come here. This island is for people who want to relax. Beautiful, natural beaches with state parks at each end. You can ride bikes on the beach and it is dog friendly. We never felt crowded. A great variety of restaurants and bars. We got a chance to visit several. There is a wonderful mix of families, retirees, and couples here all looking to enjoy themselves. We will keep coming back here. We have found our island oasis.

“Beautiful destination wedding or family vacation area”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

Fort Myers is beautiful and so aren't the locals. Folks are real friendly and nice. Lost my hat and folks found me in the restaurant to make sure I got it back. There was no rif-raff around Times Square. There's always a decent band playing there and all the restaurants have bands playing during dinner. Fishing was superb! Go see Ford-Edison estates. Recommend this area highly coming from CT.
