we lived there for 5 days and it was perfect, nice and cheap, there is no restaurant but no problem there is an okay kitchen in the room, and there is free coffe at the front desk. We recommend one of the rooms with Beach view so you can Watch the sunset. There is lots off stuff to see in the area in 30 min drive range. The pool area is perfect too children. We will definitly come back Again, even though its a long way from denmark.

Mvh Family Hammer.

Room Tip: room 153 - 154 - 155 (Beach view)

First time here and by far the best experience. Me and my family came here to relax and just enjoy the weekend and that 8s exactly what happened. All we did was open our balcony and there was the pool and the beach. Location is perfect. Can't wait to come again. Highly recommend A++++

On our return to the southwest coast after many years (since before the big oil spill disaster), we decided to try the mid-beach area of Estero Island in the heart of Ft. Myers Beach, but away from the "craziness" of the times square area hotels. The road trip going up to the beach was fantastic, passing through the everglades along I-75, crossing Bonita Springs' miles of beautiful beachfront towering homes, and miles of palm trees and beach shores untouched by commercial development! After the amazing road trip, our eyes caught the beauty of the color pastel yellow!

Our destination this year for our end-of-summer vacation was the picturesque and amazing Sandpiper Gulf Resort--just like its website illustrated and stated, this resort, a "mini-resort," unlike its big sister further north, the Pink Shell, totes its own whistles and bells! We started off by finding spacious parking spaces, including sufficient handicap spots for my mother and aunt, the former following reconstructive knee surgery and still with a walking limp, and after reserving online and requesting a ground level room, were surprised to learn that the front desk needed no reminders to accommodate us on ground level. The hotel's front desk attendant, and a "superman" of sorts, Tim was extremely attentive and friendly to our check-in. Throughout the stay, Tim made sure his guests were pampered at all times-- even coming to our rescue and explaining to us one day the proper rules of playing shuffleboard! On other vacations, I've witnessed front desk staff just station themselves behind the counter, but Tim was all the contrary. This man would "fly" through the courtyard and pool areas to help anyone. The Sandpiper Gulf Resort has an amazing employee in Tim.

Our room, overlooking the courtyard, and with close proximity to the pool area, was everything as illustrated on the website and read through prior reviews-- it was fantastic! The studio-like accommodation has two double-beds, a vanity area, private toilet and bathtub (renovated to say the least), and a fully equipped kitchen. The only cons we found were that one of the stove-top burners wasn't working, the hotel doesn't provide a blender (we need our family-tradition frozen smoothies), and the air-conditioning unit is in the kitchen, and not near the sleeping area where the double-beds are located. When we ate on the kitchen's dining table, we had to turn off the A/C unit. Aside from those issues, some that are at a person's own taste and critique, the room was superb. The bathing toiletries were of high quality, including the toilet paper, which in contrast to other hotels, did not feel like sandpaper. One of my pet peeves is a hotel bathroom's toilet leg space and shower water pressure. Both of those passed my personal evaluation! There is sufficient leg space on both sides of the toilet, from the wall and the bathtub. I also have to state that our room (ground level courtyard view, Room 123) the bathtub and vanity area look recently remodeled-- an extra kudos! The beds are super comfortable and the room provides a pull out sofa that is comfy as comfy gets for sofa-beds. Since we were on the ground-level the room lead to the courtyard via a large glass sliding door, that was easy to open and close (well-oiled), and we had the ease to leave our beach chairs and dry our swim trunks outdoors. The facility was extremely safe and never was there anything missing or stolen from outside our little patio area.

The pool area was ideal. There were plenty of tanning chairs and tables, including two professional-brand named gas grills and tables, perfect to make barbecue and eat outdoors with the family. We were polite enough to leave everything clean as we found it. The hotel features two pools, one for adults over 18 years old and the other for families (all ages). We took advantage of both and had a good time. Both pools are open until dusk. As I was floating in the family pool really late, and overlooking the sunset on the beach, I saw the waves of the pool reflecting on one of the building's wall and thought to myself that it would be a great idea for the hotel's administration to install a screen, or paint a large rectangular area in white, and project movies on to it. Call it Sandpiper's Sunset Movie! Since there are two pools, the family pool can cater to the kids while showing a movie and perhaps the parents can have something for them in the adult pool, like a night with a ballad singer for serenades, romantic karaoke night, or bring in a food vendor for candlelight dinners on the Sandpiper Sunset & Dinner! These ideas would work in that you are keeping people in the "mini-resort" by having their entertainment and dining plans in-house.

Now, even if you had to leave the resort area to explore the city, dine out, or do groceries to equip the room's standard home-sized refrigerator, the Sandpiper is conveniently located in the middle of Estero Island, extremely close to a nearby groceries shopping store, Publix, and several smaller convenient stores, even some 7-11's with gas pumps. The Sandpiper is located near Junkaroo, a nearby eatery staple, where on Tuesdays you can buy a regular pizza pie and get the second for only a $1, and the hub of Ft. Myers Beach, Times Square and the adjacent pier. I urge all to try the delicious chicken soft tacos at Yo-Taco, open til 2 am. Also, on tuesdays they have $1 soft taco specials! Upon checking into the Sandpiper, I urge everyone to pick up all the magazines, brochures, and literature, all filled with coupons and articles on how to enjoy the area and nearby islands, like Sanibel and Captiva. One night our family trekked to Sanibel to visit the world renowned Pinnochio's Italian Ice Cream and had a most delicious blast! Beware though, the toll into Sanibel is $6.00! I thought the $2.50 Osceola Parkway toll going to Disney was steep....hold on, Sanibel's takes the cake, and the ice cream per sake! Good thing though that the ice cream was reasonably priced and most delicious.

The reviews are meant to emphasize the property but since it's a beachfront hotel, then one of its amenities, the beach, needs to be highlighted as well. Upon exiting the pool area's gate it is almost obligatory for one to take off their sandals and walk on the pristine, and clean, white sand. This sand is like walking on white powder. The beach's water was a bit brownish-tint, but that's because of the local issues with the high levels of runoff water coming from Lake Okeechobee, which is only a matter of time til the water returns to a more blueish-green tint. After all, it is the gulf of mexico water. Regardless, the water is extremely safe and quiet, as in no big waves, imagine a huge pool. We spent our days going back and forth from the pool area to the beach and to the room. What's best is that we would leave our beach chairs, cooler, and umbrellas unattended out on the beach and pool areas and never did we lose anything or had it stolen. The area is extremely safe!

We stayed Sunday through Thursday, August 4-8, 2013 and took advantage of the hotel's awesome special of a three night stay with the 4th night free. Hopefully this special, available by booking through the hotel's website, is also in play next year! As our last day arrived, I called the front desk very early and was greeted by Bonnie on the phone. I respectfully requested a late check-out and Bonnie catered to it without any reservation and allowed us one more hour (by noon) to check-out. It was complimentary as well! Thank you Bonnie!

Overall, Sandpiper Gulf Resort exceeded our expectations and on our way back from vacation I happened to realize that the parking pass was still attached to the rear view mirror and offered a $15 credit for the next time we stay at the "mini-resort." I thought to myself, this was just the icing on the cake! A family, like Sandpiper Gulf Resort, wants you to save money and still come back again and again! Definitely!

Room Tip: Ground-level courtyard rooms are as just "beach-front" as the "beach front rooms"...

The penthouse was spacious, had a great view, and was so cute and romantic for the first few days of our honeymoon. The location is great; not too close to the more touristy parts of the island, but close to the beach and a ten or fifteen minute drive to the nightlife. Will definitely chose this place again if we ever go back to fort Meyers beach.

We have been staying at this resort for so many years (20+) that I can't remember if I've ever written a previous review. The Sandpiper is just a great place to spend some time on the gulf coast of Florida. Originally just a Mom and Pop type motel it became privately owned condos several years ago and received a complete renovation to include all new kitchen appliences, granite counter tops and furniture. About two years ago they wnt with a new property management company which has improved services immeasurably. The grounds are very well maintained along with the family and adult pools. Although the beach area may be smaller than other gulf front places it is also well maintained. A great, relaxing stay even though we were given a much smaller room than we normally get.
