We stayed at the Sandpiper after a 3 day business conference at LaPlaya resort in Naples . Our room at the Sandpiper was much cleaner. Our in room refrigerator was spotless at the Sandpiper - the same could not be said for LaPlaya resort. Sandpiper was a great value- a third of what we paid at LaPlaya resort. The location of the Sandpiper was perfect - away from the congested Times Square area that we tried to visit, but could find no parking space. We will definitely recommend the Sandpiper.

Upon our arrival we were a little skeptical about this resort, I will admit however, to our surprise this turned out to be one of our favorite resorts in the Ft. Myers area. We have stayed at Pink Shell (hated it, yes, I know they are affiliated with them), Sanibel Harbour and Resort and at the The Westin Cape Coral Resort At Marina Village. While a lack of amenities was one lacking point, the benefits over weighed that tiny flaw. The resort is quaint yet so family oriented. The BEACH FRONT rooms are a must. The views are SPECTACULAR. I mean, breathtaking! Every morning we would wake up to dolphins swimming by, the evenings we would spend strolling the shore for some of the most unique shells and creatures. Staff was great, housekeeping lacked seriously though. Our rooms weren't cleaned until about 3pm and some of those days we needed to call just to get them there. Another factor that's not huge to us. All and all, when we return to Ft. Myers or the Sanibel area, you can bet your bottoms that's where were staying.

Oh and as for the Midisland sports rentals that are on the beach for your pleasure, we had the luxury of meeting some of the guys running that "gig" and they were AWESOME. So kind and informative. We did the jet ski rentals for an hour and I must say, that was the most memorable moment in our vaca. 8 thumbs up (considering their are 4 of us in our party)!!!! Even if your staying elsewhere, please consider visiting them. They were just awesome!!!

Room Tip: Beach FRONT not beach VIEW rooms are a MUST!!!!!

Peaceful and Relaxing for a romantic stay or a perfect family place. I have come here with my family for the passed 6 years in the month of May. The weather is PERFECT everyday. We come for the Sun by the pools and the ocean. We always have a beachfront room on the first floor. I love the sound of the ocean when I have my patio door open.
I never check out from my stay until I have made a reservation for the next up coming year.

Room Tip: The first floor beachfront rooms are the best. Also rooms that face the pool have a great view of th...

Perfect spot for a peaceful weekend. Didn't need anything but a book and a beach chair. Dolphins swim right by, and the sunsets were spectacular. We drove to the more active section a few minutes north for dinner. Since our room had a kitchenette, we really didn't need to go anywhere.

Room Tip: Get a room directly facing the gulf! You can leave your slider open and listen to the waves all nigh...

We had booked a morning reservation for the jet ski dolphin tour with Mid Island Watersports ( awesome! ), which is right on the beach in front of the Sandpiper Gulf Resort and figured we would spend the day on the beach, booking a room there for that evening ( btw, if all the cheap websites like expedia, hotels.com, etc say there are no rooms left, call the hotel directly, which is what I did and they had two rooms available! ). Unfortunately check in time wasn't until 4 pm, and we got back from the jet ski tour around 12 or 1 and really wanted to shower ( the surf was rough from the wind and we were soaked and salty ) before heading out to lunch. They were soooo helpful and accomodating, allowing us to check in early. They were still cleaning the room but took our cellphone # and called us about 15 minutes later to say it was ready for us. In the meantime they allowed us to use the bathroom in the lobby and allowed us into the pool area to use the outdoor shower to rinse off and lounge in the sunshine while we waited. He also gave us a good recommendation on where to eat ( Doc Fords, right over the bridge - we sat out on the deck, they had live music which was very good and not too loud, and excellent service and food ).
I hadn't checked out this hotel online like I usually do before booking it ( it was kind of last minute and I just thought the convenience of it would be helpful since we were taking the jet ski tour there ) and wasn't sure what to expect with that bright yellow paint on the outside ( which is actually helpful since it's easy to spot your hotel when you're walking on the beach ), but it was surprisingly classy and clean! Nice sitting area, kitchenette area, deck, plenty of nice soaps and lotions. They even give you two complimentary bottles of water and a beach bag.
And of course it is directly on the beach, which is absolutely beautiful! Kind of a long walk if you're going to Times Square ( but they have a trolley that will take you there, which may be a better idea anyway since it is a busy area, especially if you want to have a few cocktails and not worry about driving back to the hotel ), but it is in a great location, close to a lot but not too congested.
They have a family pool and an adult pool, BBQ areas, coffee in lobby, etc...and if you'd like, you can go down to the Pink Shell Resort ( which is down the north end, past Times Square ) and use their amenities for free ( fitness room, swimming pool, etc. ). Your room key is actually a waterproof bracelet, which gets you in. We didn't do this, so I can't comment on it, but the Pink Shell is really beautiful and pricey, so it's a nice option.

We did our annual trip to the resort this year and were pleasantly surprised by the renovations to the rooms and properties. We always have found the resort to be a great family holiday and as this is our 10th year I believe this speaks for itself . we rented the bycycles this week and this was a great way to experience the island and beaches . Again highly recommended resort.

I think I was just plain lucky to ind this place. Unbelievable! The resort is located down to the road from the Times Square area of ft myers beach, so it's pretty mellow. It's right on the water, with two pools, and decent coffee in the lobby. Clean, comfy, no complaints at all, except I wish we stayed longer. Even if you're not a bird watcher, the sea birds will blow your mind. Dolphins and skates, just a great, restful stay on the beach. A close drive to all the fun in ft myers as well. There are two grocery stores close by. Go to Topps, the Publix markets are overpriced. This place is the perfect stay!
