We went out on the 1/2 day fishing trip. We were hoping for some big fish but ended up catching only small ones. A lot caught and enough for the 7 of us to eat but only small fish. Don't plan on reeling in the big one. Just be happy catching some!

I booked this charter with my husband and 2 kids in January, 2013. The morning we left, I noticed the amount of people getting on the boat (when I booked the day before, I was told no more than 60 people were expected on a 90' boat). I was told at the payment counter that there was plenty of room, and that lines rarely get tangled because the boat is well spread out. So, we get to the fishing area, and all lines tangled within a matter of minutes. There were over 100 people on that boat...you didn't have room to move, let alone maneuver a rod! Our group of 4 (experienced) fishermen caught one very small fish. Most people on the boat caught nothing. Horrible experience, WORST fishing charter I have EVER been on, and I hope this review keeps others from wasting their money. Total fishing time on this boat was less than 1.5 hours (a lot less when you figure in all the time you spend untangling your lines).

We took the half day excursion and were disappointed with the size and amount of fish caught. That said, the boat was very clean and the food available on board was reasonable and good. I would not bother dragging along your own cooler as we did. Also, the crew were really friendly and willing to help you anyway they could. Posted signs tell you that they are working for tips....lol However, after the hour and a half ride to reach our first fishing stop fishing was spotty at best. We moved to three other "spots" and still only caught fish that primarily had to be released as they were too small to keep. Although it was a nice time out, we walked away from our catch; too small and too few. We've done a lot of deep sea fishing in the Gulf in the past and never had such a poor showing. I believe that this excursion is set up primarly for novice fishermen and sight seeing or the Captain needs better directions. If this is it, then our oeans really are in touble!

I loved this experience! I caught about 20 good sized fish. all the employees were so friendly! The mates were 2 young cute guys and they were very knowledgeable. When anyone caught something out of the ordinary they would walk around with it and show all the fishers. on our trip someone caught a huge sea turtle, and blow fish, a scorpion fish and one of those fish that cling to sharks. One of the mates came around with each one, with the puffer fish he opened its mouth and blew it up and then tickled its belly and the fish released all the air and swam away! so cute :) the sea turtle was brought to the surface of the water so everyone could see and then released. it was such an amazing thing. and one of the mates stuck the shark sticking fish to his arm and walked around asking people if they could take it off for him. all the crew members were helpful funny and very easy to talk to.
the ride out to our fishing spot was very rough but fun. yes some people did get seasick but Dramamine was available for purchase on the boat. a very smart idea. inside there was a kitchen where you could order food. any thing from a small snack to a full out breakfast. i had a grilled ham and cheese which was great! the cook was also very nice and funny.
when boarding the boat the mates were cutting the bait and it reaked! but i guess the fish liked it. while fishing the mates came around and baited, unhooked, detangled, pretty much anything and everything was done for you. at the end they even cleaned and fileted your fish!
i cant speak for everyone because im an 18 year old girl who doesnt even like fishing and know nothing about deep sea fishing, but i loved this experience! almost everytime my hook hit the water i was pulling out another fish! lucky me:) the ride to the fishing spot is rough and long but the ride back is calm because they cant go as fast because the mates and cleaning the fish. perfect time for a little cat nap! and boy did i need it. the gentle rocking of the boat was so relaxing and the boat wasnt too crowded so i had a seat all to myself to stretch out on. i had such a great time i tipped with a 5. they definitly deserved every cent they worked so hard! just got back to wisconsin and im already planning on going back!

Depending on how lucky you are, you might get a pound of fish for $100....so if you just want to eat seafood, go to your local market. otherwise, consider it the price for a day of entertainment. It can be crowded, and yes there will be tangled lines, but the crew is there helping you every step of the way....rigging your equipment, baiting your hooks, untangling lines, identifying your catches, removing the fish and cleaning the keepers for you to take home. Unless the seas are under 3 feet, be prepared for bumpy ride and sea sick passengers. We went as a small group of friends celebrating a couple of birthdays and came back with a pail full of fish for the group. Mostly lane snappers...no keeper grouper (which is what we would have liked to get). At least we had plenty of action, and everyone caught fish.
