“Stay Here If You Have To Stay at the Beach”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

The Red Coconut is a funky combo of motor homes and park models mixed together. Amenities are few but the beach is right across the street. We had a sight at the back of the park, very noisy and not much room there are some sites on the beach which is nice but not worth the lack of privacy and constant noise.

Con:
The Red Coconut RV Park website shows campers and rv's on the beach. That is the main selling point. About 20 to 25% of the sites are on or near the beach. It is not clear how one gets to set up on these Gulf Side sites. Seniority? Feb is peak season. My wife registered early, but maybe not early enough. And, this was our first visit. So, do not expect to set up on or near the Gulf. It might be the case of take it or leave it because the demand is so high. I am sure the staff is pestered about that all of the time. This is the main reason for my average to vg rating. B+.

The sites are a very narrow tight fit. We could not extend our main awning for instance. We have 40 ft DP MH with two large slideouts.

The park is geared more toward senior citizens and retirees. I guess like most things in Florida.

Pro:
Even if you are on the sites across Estero Blvd you are not too far from the water. Good electrical power. Good water and sewer service. Relatively quiet.

There is pretty nice hiking trail right behind the CG.

We did not bring a car. With our bicycles everything was doable. There is a small grocery store a few blocks away, Topps. Publix is down the other way. And, a liquor store a bit further down. You are about 1.5 miles from the Pier, tourist shops, restaurants and the crowds. There is a very nice restaurant right across the street, Fresh Catch.

The helpers try to assist in parking. Most of us are pretty good at setting up our rigs. The staff is friendly. This is a very fair value. Overall we liked it.

Almost all of the sites are full, attesting to the desirability. This is about the only spot in SW that you can have your rv at least near the beach. We had our 4 yr old grandson. Later our Children and their spouses joined us. Everyone in our family was happy to be able to easily get to the Gulf.

Could have stayed forever. There are two sections - park side which abuts a nature preserve and right on the beach. The park side is just across the islands main road but traffic is good about stopping and there is a crosswalk.
Have never encountered such helpful staff. They were there to help before you even realized you needed them. Speaking of the service people who buzz around in their little carts. Office was busy but sufficient help that there was no wait. East end of this RV park has a entry right onto the hiking trails and boardwalk.
Beach is wonderful. White sugar sand with an abundance of birds and shells.
Easy walking distance to the library, 7-11, a gym, restaurants, art center, mound house, ETC. Within biking distance you will find the post office and main area of shops and the pier
Would have given Red Coconut the highest possible rating but their WiiFi is often down.

Room Tip: The row right on the beach is the best if one can get it. Believe it costs slightly more but worth i...

My family and I love this place . The best sites are the water front/beach sites. We have a dog and she is part of our family and she loves the water. We mostly go to state parks which sadly do not allow dogs on the beach. So what makes red coconut awesome is the fact that our dog can enjoy the beach like we can. Red coconut is amazing, the only think is the price. My family and I would go more often if the pricing was lower. Overall if you got the money and don't mind spending it , Red Coconut is the place.

We were looking forward to our vacation on the beach December 20th 2013. We called the Red Coconut and were told they have a spot on the fourth row from the beach on a quiet back road, so the traffic noise shouldn't bother us. We pulled in the evening of the 20th after dark. The desk crew was friendly enough, however the person that was going to lead us in to our spot seemed abrupt. We paid for the week, $517.00 and prepared to be lead in to our spot. The person driving the scooter took of across the street, (Estero Blvd, the main road through town) and disappeared. When we pulled into that lot he was a considerable distance away in the lot. He motioned for us to turn in toward him and led us right into sideswiping a huge tree at the entrance. When we caught up to him his comment was, Looks like you hit a tree, doesn't it? He directed us to back into a site which we did. Then noticed that we were too close to another tree to deploy our sideout. After much arguing we were able to move it over to accommodate the sideout. However that put the motor home too far over on the concrete slab so there was no place for our towed car. He advised we would have to find somewhere else in town to park it.

We then tried to settle in to get some sleep. Much to our horror, that quiet side street was the main road through town. The noise level was so high, (especially when the bars close) with loud motorcycles etc, we didn't sleep at all.
When we went to the office the next morning to complain, they said we would need to speak to Chris or Pam at the main office and gave us our bill with the phone number. They said someone should be in the office on Monday. We found another place to stay, (Fort Meyers RV Resort, great place) and tried calling on Monday. We were told we would have to speak to Laurie who would not be back in the office till Friday.

We have been trying to contact Laurie for the past two weeks. When we finally did get a response, Chris got on the phone and said it was their policy not to give refunds for early departures. I will be getting damage estimates for our RV now and weigh our options, just because they refuse to cooperate at all. I would suggest to avoid this place at all costs.
Also, don't pay the deposit for the cable modem, it doesn't work.

End of March/2013 for a week was our 2nd stay at Red Coconut in our 38' Diplomat. We were lucky enough to get an oceanfront site for that week in 2012 and left our $200 deposit for our 2013 visit (same week). The sites are tight. Very tight. While we were there, we traded our RV in at North Trail RV in Ft. Myers for a new 39' Tiffin. It was tight getting the new one in there and unfortunately Steve was not available to get us back out. The person directing us out by hand ended up having my husband back into a picnic table and scratch the paint off our new RV. Not happy with that. But stuff happens, so we dealt with it and did not complain. Our site has a LARGE tree and that is what makes it hard to get into. We were told that they were considering removing that tree. I hope when we go back this year it is gone.

Staff is awesome and friendly. I can't say enough about them or the guys/gals on the golf carts who do all the work behind the scenes. As I said above, we love Steve. He's got great personality, knows how to back in an RV to a tight spot and is worth his weight in gold. Ice is convenient, right at the office. Parking was not a problem. When we had day company, we went to the office, got a visitor spot for them for the day. Or I would put them at my site and move my car to the visitor spot.

Plenty of good restaurants. Grocery store is a few miles away by car of take your bike north to the little family run local grocery store TOPPS. That is what I did mostly. Even found a dog groomer to trim our boys' nails.

Our family participated in the parasailing and had a blast doing this. This year we plan to shell at Sanibel.

Can't wait till we return to this paradise of an RV park. It is simply the BEST!

Diane/Delaware

The beach is RIGHT there. You walk out your door and you are there. We left our chairs/tables/umbrella's out all week in front of our RV. We love the neighbors and have the same ones every year. it's fun to catch up after a year.

Dog friendly too. We travel with two black labs and they have a blast on the beach, on the leash of course, as the town patrols with their utility vehicle and looks for doggies off leash to put in their cases on the back of their vehicle. We have been to the state run dog beach too. It's cool. Five miles further south.

Sand is white, white, white and gets everywhere, but who cares. It's vacation and it's the beach.
