I took an extra couple of days after a seminar to sight-see and wanted to keep the cost down. This was the most reasonably priced hotel I could find in the area with decent traveler reviews. For my intended visit to Sanibel Island, this was conveniently located, it was clean, a very large room and very reasonably priced.

This place has a grand lobby which welcomes the guest. The rooms are spacious and are well appointed. There is a desk chair as well as an upholstered chair. While the rooms looked nice, there were signs of age -- like electrical sockets that were loose and unreliable, and worn plumbing fixtures.

You do not get to park close to your room, because this is a hotel, not a motel. That is not a big deal unless you have two dozen things in the trunk that need to go in like I did. There are 2 floors, and no elevator. The stairs going up are narrow and require squeezing by other guests.

Breakfast was included in my rate. It was a starchy breakfast - bread, muffins, rolls, and cereal. They also had apples & oranges, but no eggs, cheese, nuts, bacon, meat, or yogurt.

There is a shared computer and printer in lobby. The computer is their "business center". It was an old model which would have been fine, except that the copy of MS Office 2003 was not functioning because it had not been validated with a licence key. The computer is OK for simple tasks like printing a boarding pass. But if you have an MS Word document that needs to be printed, you're screwed.

There is free WiFi and it is speedy. The connection itself is not encrypted, but after connecting, you need to enter a password. Unfortunately at seemingly random times the session expires without telling you. You might discover this when you notice that you haven't received any emails for a while. Then you have to re-enter your password. This is annoying, especially for your smartphone. What are they worried about - that some scallywag off the street is going to hide in the bushes stealing their Internet signal?

When I checked out, they added a $1 per day "service charge" that had not been agreed to. It is not much, but I left thinking I had been gypped.

Next time I will stay with the La Quinta next door where I have stayed before. They have not levied unauthorized fees and are a better choice for other reasons as well.

I stayed 3 nights in the Travelodge Ft. Myers, and I was on the first floor near the end of the hall by a door leading outside that was not locked at any time. My room had German cockroaches in it, bathroom door didn't latch, tub didn't drain well, comforter had cigarette burns, and the room stunk of old, stale cigarette smoke. However, breakfast was readily available, and front desk staff was nice. Doors slam quite hard, and when you're alone, slamming doors at 3:30 will jolt you out of a pretty deep sleep. I will not stay here again, and I can only hope my luggage doesn't have roach eggs in it. Room was big, but no carpet makes for a bit of an uncomfortable experience.
