“Friendly and Fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2010

My husband and I stayed here while on vacation going to Spring Training and Sanibel Island and got our room through Priceline. We wish it had been closer to Sanibel (it took about 35 mins to get there), but was very close to Hammond Stadium (Spring Training home of the Twins). The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating and at our request, gave us a room with sliding glass doors opening out to the pool. In addition to the pool, there is also a hot tub and a small fitness center (2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, and weights), though all close at 11 pm. Our stay was just fine with the added bonus of helpful and friendly staff. The room (with 2 queen beds) met our needs just fine and we found this to be a pretty typical Courtyard by Marriott experience.

This is an older hotel. While it bears the Marriott name, there are other hotels within two blocks that are pretty new and likely the same price or cheaper because they are less prestigious chains. I will say that the staff was friendly and helpful. They helped me with a special request. Also, be aware that there is no free breakfast. I did not try the breakfast, but I think it is in the neighborhood of $10. The in-room WiFi frequently dropped my connection. This is critical for me as an IT services provider.

This was not our first stay at this location; we stayed in 2005. I traveled with my husband, teenage son, sister and her teenage daughter. Because this was a family trip, we had requested side by side rooms, with one having a fridge. I had confirmed my reserversation a few days before leaving for the trip. When we arrived, my sister was placed on the first floor, and my family on the third floor, on opposite sides of the hotel, no fridge. Disappointing, but certainly not the end of the world. What really bothered me was the manager's extremely poor attitude. He stated that some guests had "held over" (a soccer team!), and basically he had the "I could not care less" attitude with no apologies whatsoever. There was no customer service whatsoever and in this economy, hotel guests have affordable options and a choice when it comes to spending their cash. That evening I confirmed with the front desk the time breakfast would begin serving and the cost ($5.00). We go to breakfast the next morning (cereal, coffee, juice), and get a bill for nearly $54.00 for 5 of us. What? Come to find out, $5.00 is the cost for children, adults pay $9.00. Our stay in 2005 was great and that is why we made the return to Courtyard. We always stay at Courtyards, but I will not stay at this one again.

Good facilities, but can be noisy because it is located next to a busy road.
Clean, and not too fancy.
Nothing stands out.

Our stay at this Courtyard was very pleasant, as in most all other Marriott Courtyards we have stayed in.

The rooms were clean, the front desk staff was friendly.

We enjoyed the fitness room and the swimming pool and surrounding area was quite nice.

Our only suggestion would be that Housekeeping should be slightly more aggressive when cleaning the bathtub. Each day we noticed that it had been cleaned, but not well. Other than that, we had a very good experience and found it to be quite comfortable. We would stay here in the future should we have the occasion.

  • Liked — Breakfast on site, nice fitness area, and pool
  • Disliked — Bathroom tub could have been cleaned better

My husband had to work so I stayed the recent weekend here. Very basic well kept hotel with nice pool area. Room was quaint with sofa to sit and watch tele and comfy bed. Nice sliding glass door but it would only open 5 inches which was ridiculous. Adequate bath. The desk has a list of restaurants that will deliver. Stay away from the large menu italian one I was somehow charged over $30 for a small pizza and wings with no plates or utensils delvered they obviously don't care about the hotel people. Next door is the ALE HOUSE where we ate twice and had reasonable food and prices. It is a sports bar with large eclectic menu. The hotel breakfast buffet was mediocre for $9.25
I would go elsewhere . Our room was $139.0 after all taxes. (Taxes were about $14.00)

  • Liked — ALE HOUSE next door
  • Disliked — Glass sliding door only opens 4-5 inches.

We stayed here for $89 on Feb 16th. It was a very good rate at the time. The room was fine for the 5 of us. We were on the side away from the highway.
We thought the best feature was the pool area. It was half shaded and relaxing, with an indoor whirlpool.
