Captain Bob drives you in a van or bus out to Lake Trafford for airboat ride follwed by an "encounter" with baby alligators (cute--even my three year old was excited to hold one) and a sort of a mini-zoo he has created at the marina there, includes a huge Burmese Python, alligator snapping turtle, and a big collection of snakes. Past reviewer complained that the lake is not in the Everglades. On the contrary, the Everglades goes a lot further north than "Everglades Nat'l Park" and technically the entire southern end of FLA from Lake Okeechobee down are Everglades. It was hot the day we went and we only saw about 5 alligators, but that was fine. Evidently in cooler weather there are more seen. Lake is full of alligators according to boat driver (not crocodiles! as past reviewer said) . Saw tons of neat birds and the boat driver slowed down and identified them all for us. Also saw a bald eagle. Boat ride was abouy 40 minutes.

It's pretty tourist geared-- what do you expect for $60 each? It is marketed in the brochures and website accurately. Consider the company's expense in gas, vehicle upkeep and INSURANCE. Captain Bob is professional and the big van was clean and comfortable-- till the smelly German tourists were picked up anyway. The marina is pretty low rent but the folks there are nice-- they have a big collection of parrots that made conversation with us. My husband and mother-in-law agreed that the best part of the trip was actually Bob's explanation of Everglades history and hydrology on the trip down, which was interesting to both the scientists and nonscientists among us. My two kids thought the alligators were cool and van ride boring, so to each his own.

My husband and I went on a half day adventure with Captain Bob and it was nice but not what we had expected or hoped for. The beautiful bus picked us up at a local hotel which was convenient for us, and the bus ride was long but did not seem to take us as far as it should have. We stopped only a few miles from the airport, which was only about a 45 minute drive from the hotel we were staying at, but this ride was an hour and a half, out to a lake not even near the everglades. Although the airboat ride was cool, and we saw lots of crocodiles, the ride it was short and not through a mangrove like we expected. The airboat driver did not stop to offer picture opportunities; he seemed like he was in a hurry to get us back. Then the other airboat broke down on the lake and we had to go and get the family of 6 off of the boat which made the rest of the trip cramped for all of us, and there was no apology or any restitution offered, not even a bottled water, and it was hot that day. It was fun, though, afterwards to see the snakes, birds and hold the small croc. But the price of $60.00 for the 9am-12pm trip which was mostly sitting in the bus listening to Bob talk was really not worth the price. It was probably worth about $30-40 tops. Not the best value for the price. Next time we will drive down to the everglades ourselves and look into a more authentic trip. But I gotta give 2 thumbs up to Bob for caring about the environment and sharing the info with the tourists.
