We've dined at Bratta's a number of times in the past, and returned there recently with friends (at our suggestion). Although I have previously given the restaurant a good review, I feel I have to take most of that back. This time around, the food was nowhere near as good as on previous visits. An appetizer we always order has completely changed, without a corresponding change in the menu description, the risotto was starchy and flavourless, and the lamb overcooked. Only the fish was well prepared. And once again on this visit, we found the music (which is quite good) to be far too loud. We have complained about this in the past, and always try to choose a table that is tucked around a corner or way in the back, far from the speakers. We could not get such a table this time, and it ruined our evening. The music (live band or DJ during breaks) makes it impossible to have a conversation with your table companions without shouting to be heard. We are not fussy folks with hearing issues, and we were not there during happy hour when one might expect a louder tone. The restaurant was only half full, and perhaps we now know why. Management needs to decide who it wants to attract -- the table that spends $200/couple on food and wine, or the crowd at the bar drinking $5 beers. One off night in the kitchen can be forgiven, but we are tired of leaving with sore throats from shouting at each other. Until the music issue is resolved, we will not be returning.
