October 2010, my step-daughter had her wedding outside on the back lawn of the grounds. It's right on the river and big beautiful trees. They allow full use of the inside, including rooms for the parties to dress on-site. Also, there is a kitchen for your reception foods to be prepared. For an inside wedding there is a lavish staircase that a bride would be proud to walk down to meet her groom. The house is furnished with antiques and tasteful furniture for seating of guests. The dining room offers a beautiful room to display your cake and foods. It has a wrap-around porch and a veranda attached to the main house for your reception's DJ to set up and dancing. I would have rated it "Excellent". Because of the rudeness of a Burroughs employee who was overseeing the event,I just couldn't do it. The wedding party and guests found her rude and abrupt. Hopefully, she is gone because she was a nasty blemish.

The description of "Home and Gardens" is deceptive from the Garden standpoint. If you are expecting to see an array of plants, forget about it. It is more in line with the British term of "garden", which we would describe as a "yard". There are virtually no exotic plantings, though the live oaks are nice. That being said, it was an interesting sight. The home is in excellent condition, though the furnishings are generally unremarkable. The visit would have been very disappointing if we had not taken the guided tour. The docent filled in the gaps in the history of the home and the surrounding community at the time it was in its heyday.

My sister inlaw just got married here. It was great, the ceremony by the bay. Very nice inside. although beeing so old. it smells kinda funny. The wedding was awsome, we got to see all of the home, and the history was very interesting to see and get to know.

My girlfriend and I were out for a night on the town, to celebrate our engagement and get into the Christmas Spirit. We decided to start the evening with a visit to the annual Fort Myers Woman's Club Holiday House, held at the historic Burroughs and Langford-Kingston Homes in downtown Fort Myers. Both homes were decorated with elaborate Christmas Ornaments. The Burroughs Home and Gardens is a 2.45 acre mansion overlooking the Caloosahatchee River in historic downtown Fort Myers. The 2.5 story 6000 square foot home, completed in 1901 is a fine example Georgian Revival architecture. The house includes 14 foot ceilings, Florida Pine floors, mahogany fire place and a winding grand staircase. The grounds featured a lush tropical setting of assorted palm trees overlooking the mile wide river and bridge. Decorated with lights, this made for a very romantic start to our dinner date evening. The cost of the tour was only $5. and lasted for one hour. I must say, this night scored a lot of points for my street credibility.
