Excellent introduction to a typical south Florida ecosystem, The 1.2 mi. boardwalk (all above water though August is the rainy season) winds through a dense swamp. There are frequent ovelooks for birding and photography. Self-guided; occasional guided tours. Small interpretive center. Within the city of Ft. Myers, visitors should make this theirs first nature tour before exploring other natural areas.

This is such a beautiful commune with nature. You will see first hand the swampy marshes of SW Florida with all of its wild life... Birds, alligators, beautiful and rare orchids and other "not often seen" foliage and huge hundreds of year old trees. There is no formal tour, but there are many placks along the way to explain what you are looking at. Also signs to point you back to civilization. This was such a peaceful retreat away from the normal stress of every day life. A must see.

Free(donation) visitors center. Very informative and full of new information even for Florida natives. Wet season visit allowed us to see beauty of preserve. Went at midday. Very shady, but is Florida so expect humidity. Different vegetation and detailed explanations. Enjoyed the place. Good for late afternoon tour, probably more wildlife sightings, too.

The boardwalk was neat and clean and offered a self guided interpretive hike in a beautiful cypress forest. Visit the nature/visitor center on the property first as it will set the stage for a hike on the boardwalk. The staff is mostly volunteer but very friendly and knowledgeable.

at only $1 per hour to park, this nature preserve is a place to find calm, and see the beautiful ecosystem. I got there early morning while the dew was still burning off. I had the place to myself, and was able to enjoy the serenity. Easy walking, or scootering on the trails, with plenty of places to sit and take in the beauty. Bring water, and dress for humidity, but don't miss!
