We visited the preserve for the first time although we've been to Fort Myers numerous times--decided to try it this time. We were able to park for free because the meters were broken. Not sure of the cost to park but probably affordable. We walked through the boardwalk through the preserve for maybe an hour and a half. Almost all flat and easily walkable. We recall the distance to be about 2.5 miles overall (not sure about that though). They had very good maps along the trail, various stopping off points for vantage points and views of wildlife, etc. Several good guides that were posted at various locations including one older couple from Missouri that were delightful in their passion and knowledge of the preserve. Detractions included some screaming babies and restless children who would run through the preserve when silence was the order of the day (to truly enjoy the serenity and tranquility present). But if you can overlook minor distractions of that sort, and are not going there strictly for transcendental meditation purposes, it is a thoroughly enjoyable outdoors experience. Also, because you are primarily in a wooded area, the sun is not really a problem for those who want to avoid direct sun contact, although having a hat/lotion/etc. for protection is always a good idea any time you're in Florida and visiting from the North.

We visited this place a few years ago with two special cousins, Margie and Russell, and really enjoyed it. It is beautiful and pure nature.

This is a nice alternative to the usual beachy activities in south Florida. You can see plenty of wildlife - we saw baby alligators, plenty of birds, lizards. We even think we heard some feral pigs digging up some roots! It's a beautiful preserve with a nice elevated boardwalk that seems to mitigate the issue of bugs nipping at your heels. There are plenty of spots along the boardwalk that have benches that overlook scenic areas, often with thought-provoking quotes.
