Farmers market is the oldest restaurant in fort Myers, over 50 years, and has excellent southern cooking. Today I had fried chicken, baked sweet potato, okra and tomatoes. And collard greens. The chicken was perfect. It takes longer to get then other menu items because they cook it when you order. Hint: pay 50 cents extra for white meat, you get a lot more chicken.

“Great breakfast”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

Never have been there for lunch or dinner. I don't know why either. The breakfasts to choose from are all great. If you go on a weekend, expect to be crowded. Service is fast and friendly.

“Awesome experience”
Reviewed March 26, 2013 via mobile

A must experience while you are in the area even if this mean driving a few extra miles. That is of course if you are looking for something at least original in that standardized food chain offer of today's world. This restaurant is all about real authentic southern food. Don't expect anything fancy - it is actually surrounded by industrial buildings with delivery trucks - but again what you get is that authentic flair and this applies for the overall restaurant style. Service might take a bit of waiting time but it is all worth it. I personally got the fried chicken liver with sides of brocoli, fried green tomatoes and awesome fried zuccinih's. All today s special come with 3 sides, delicious fresh corn bread or rolls all of that for a respectful $11.95. Good deal for the amount of food and its quality. And just to be clear we are not talking here about another tasty burgers and fries joint. It is actual food with in fact great veggies! My wife got a great broiled fish and for the kids real authentic mac&cheese with brocoli. None of those ingredients are coming from any of the major foodservice industry that is serving all these chains and making things so boring and blaah. I could go on with compliments but in conclusion this is what authencity is, a true simple refreshing expression of it that I thought did not exist anymore. You ve got to try it with the family and steer away from the malls and their absence of taste so we can still experience this food 30 years from now! Another testimony on how good it is is that it has been around since 1956!! Enjoy and let me know your experience!

“Worth the Hunt to find it!”
Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

Simply put ... A fantastic unassuming food experience. Nothing fancy, always crowded, but very well run. If you prefer good food, well prepared selections, over fancy table cloths and candelabras - put this place on your list. I've tried everything from eggs and grits - to French toast - for breakfast - to hot open Fresh turkey sandwich or burgers and fries for lunch or brunch and always lest totally satisfied. Put the address into your GPS or just ask around, just go.

“not like any homecooking i've had”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

i'm from virginia, my grandmother cooked all the homestyle foods you can think of, fried chicken, fried porkchops, meatloaf and more..i don't expect anyone to cook exactly like that but when i see 'homestyle southern" cooking i'm hoping for just that
sooo....recently a friend and i went to the farmers market to see if they really did have real homecooking.....well, the answer is NO
the piece of thigh/leg combo fried chicken my friend had was dry and over cooked and had absolutely NO taste....my fried pork chops had no batter on them and had been cut up because they said they would "curl up in the fryer" if they weren't......well home cooking doesn't usually need deep fryer for chops, and these chops were thin and dry and cut to pieces.......the plates came with 3 sides, on of which was green beans, but instead of being the usualy "snap" style green bean these were the larger flat beans and had a much too sweet taste to whatever they were cooked in.....the mashed potato's were ok but nothing special and the fried green tomatos had plenty of breading on a small piece of tomato......all in all i have no idea why people think this is "homecooking" because its just mass produced out of a typical restaurant kitchen with minimum wage "cooks"......i've never had breakfast here so that may be wonderful, but as for lunch......its overrated and over priced
