“Great local place”

We had a great meal, the crab cakes and chicken Parmesan were delicious. The owners daughter was a great hostess. There will be 6-8 bands down for season, it is a very fun place!

“Good Things Come In Small Boxes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

We live only a mile or two from the Cracker Box and had always wondered about it.

On the southern end of McGregor Boulevard, it looks inviting from the outside and, from hearing about its history, seemed like a place we had to visit.

Well, we finally got there and glad we did. The place is a hoot with its road house kind of charm… tiny bar, plain tables, wood panel walls and other “pub” art work. Given the timing of our visit, the place was virtually empty at 7pm. However, people began to trickle in and you could easily tell they were regulars. We understand that during prime season the place can be packed.

Jodi, the manager (and part of the three generations of family that run the place), chatted with us about the menu and made suggestions (as well as providing a little history).

After agonizing over the perfect choice, I settled on their combo platter which included a crab cake (fried), shrimp (grilled) and fish (blackened) complemented with seasoned potatoes and a side of coleslaw. It was very good and I ate every bit.

My wife had one of their specialties, named Chloris (mom’s first name), which was a baked swai fish with a creamy sauce and crunchy top. It was melt-in-your-mouth excellent and she was quite impressed with it.

There is generally music every night and this is a key part of the Cracker Box experience. Three guys played an assortment of songs during our meal and they were pretty good. Although we did not experience it this night, we understand that the whole family gets involved in between cooking and serving.

The place is definitely a “local joint” experience… and a heart-warming good one.

“So much fun and great food too!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

When we go traveling, we like to find restaurants off the beaten path that inhabits mostly locals. Well, that is exactly what we did with Crackerbox. We talked to the hostess...her family owns it. Her mom and dad started the restaurant. Her father still plays in the band along with her brother. And, her daughter cooks. The band was playing when we came in to eat. They played the entire time. It was a bit loud but lots of fun...definitely a memory making kind of night. We got a sampler platter for an appetizer and everything on it was delicious. My daughter got crab cakes. They were the best crab cakes we have ever eaten. We got blackened shrimp that was absolutely delicious too. I could have made a meal on the hush puppies alone. They were amazing. So much heritage, fun and great food. If you are in the area...you have to give Crackerbox a try.

“Great Experience!!!!”

I love their fried tomato dish. I included a snap shot of their frog legs for your enjoyment.
The customer base ranges from couples, to family, to friends, to business, or solo. I suggest calling a head if you have a party of four or more. And, the entertainment is a compliment to the era of the restaurant its all good.

“Local charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

Stopped for lunch and there was enough key west chowder for four of us! One of the best chowders I've had. The grouper sandwich was also quite good. The owner told us the history of the restaurant and some of the development in the area. Meeting her was a pleasant addition to our meal.
