Description: Walking through the front doors, guests are greeted by the in-house seafood market, where the Prawnbroker showcases their specially chosen fresh fillets of fish and beef, hand-cut on premise, that are sure to tempt the palates of all. To emphasize their commitment to buying local and bringing you the freshest seafood Ft. Myers has to offer, you'll find our hand picked selection straight from the local waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Here you'll get a peek at the sumptuous fare that you'll soon be enjoying from their comfortable yet elegant dining room. Feast your eyes on mouth-watering Snapper, Gulf Shrimp, Softshell Crabs, Mahi Mahi, and the best Grouper Florida has to offer. Small tubs of pale pink creamy shrimp bisque stand in line next to bases for both kinds of chowder - New England style being what the restaurant is most famous for, a nod to the original owners' home region. Diners consistently return to enjoy these favorites plus the greatest Florida Stone crabs (in season) and Maine Lobsters.

“Very Good - At a Price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

The four of us went on a Tuesday evening. We were seated in the very comfortable atrium area and immediately greeted by Michael who was very knowledgeable about the menu and the area. After perusing reviews of this restaurant and several others on TA, we decided on this one because they offer and serve from a Gluten Free (GF) menu. I had the crunch grouper and shrimp with Caesar salad. My wife had a GF halibut dish. Other guests at the table had steak and crab legs and the broiled platter. The crunch fish was very good. There was one filet of grouper and three large crispy shrimp. My wife's halibut was tasty and cheesy. I didn't try the broiled platter or the steak / crab legs but both appeared well prepared and satisfying. The steak was ordered medium rare and appeared to be cooked to the proper doneness.

Overall, we were pleased with everything about the evening. The location is not near the water so if you are seeking seafood with a view of the shore, this isn't the place. The dining area does face a nice garden area that separates this restaurant from the rest of the shops in the area so it has a good ambiance. Service was friendly but could have been more attentive to our drinks (we had to ask for refills twice).

The cost for the four of us to include three beers and one dinner at "market cost" was just over $120.00 - include tip with that and we were pushing $150.00 for the evening. This is somewhere I am glad I went based on everything I've read but will try other places in the area for the remainder of my trip.

“If you are in Ft Myers do stop by this restaurant”

The family enjoyed the food and liked the ambiance. Conveniently located close to hotels & shopping.
The food is competitively priced. I love my Snapper, so tender & juicy, & the rice pilaf was the best I've ever had! The dessert was awesome as well!

“Fair to poor”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

Excellent waiter.....amazing chowders...broiled seafood platter was bland, grouper had a slightly funky taste. We was very disappointed in the meals taste (or lack there of). The chef specials were much better. It just was not worth the cost.

“Tucked away gem. Don't be deceived by location!”

Absolutely outstanding meal, surpassing those recently enjoyed at sister restaurant, university grill. Seated in charming atrium area, immediately served fresh warm
Honey oat bread by attentive and pleasant server. Shrimp cocktail consisted of five HUGE, meaty, delicious fresh shrimp. Husband and I both ordered tilapia captiva, stuffed with fresh crabmeat and topped with delicious lobster sauce. Harcotte vert were tender and
delicious. My salad was crisp and nicely presented and his cup of chowder equally satisfying. Can't imagine how packed this must get in season but certainly worth the wait and not to be missed. We will be back. Many times!

“Excellent food and attentive service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

My daughter and I were on vacation at Fort Myers Beach and wanted to try a nice seafood restaurant........checked the TripAdvisor reviews and decided on the Prawnbroker. It was a great choice for the grouper and shrimp dishes we selected. But our real favorite was the escargot in a garlic sauce appetizer....a first for my thirteen year old and she loved it. :) We had a great time and a great dinner
