“First impression was not the whole story!”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

We spent several hours there yesterday and really enjoyed it. We paid our $10 (a pretty small fee, really) and took a quick walk on one of the trails. I started to get pretty discouraged because the signs and some of the cages are pretty run down. Then we went to the info center for the reptile show. Since it was a small group, they invited us along as they fed the animals. He introduced us to each one and told us how they came to be at Calusa. Each animal was a rescue , or a pet that someone had to abandon. Te bald eagles, and Tails the fox were my favorite. We got to take pictures with several of the animals. Overall, the place clearly needs some help (lots of construction materials and what should be "backstage" was out in the open). The planetarium was good too, included in the price and interesting shows!

Come here and spend the time to really see what they have to offer. Don't judge the quality of the work they are doing by the condition of some of the place. We had a great time.

“Fun and Interesting for whole family”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

Today was a rainy day on our spring break vacation with a 5 and an 8 year old. We came here with low expectations and were pleasantly surprised by how many wild animals were on exhibit. We sat through an interesting alligator show as well as a planetarium show. My favorite animals were the baby horn owls and bald eagles but there were many other creatures to see as well. The facility does obviously need some donations as the cages look a bit tired and old.

“Authentic Southwest Florida”
Reviewed April 1, 2014

In contrast with so much of what passes for "real" Florida these days, the Nature Center treats visitors to a view of what the area was like in decades gone by. Native wildlife is abundant and a walk on the boardwalk late in the afternoon is filled with opportunities to catch glimpses of them.
Don't miss the exhibits inside the musueum and their live animal shows are unrivaled in the whole area.
Overall a gem hidden in the middle of the rapidly sprawling Urban space of Ft. Myers. Enjoy it!

“My son loves it here! FUN!”
Reviewed April 1, 2014

We go to the center once a month because my son and his friends ask me to take them. Every time we go, the friendly staff recognizes us and will bring out a new animal for the boys to learn about. Sometimes they even get to hold an animal. We are always on the trails for what feels like hours! My son has attended the summer camp and loved learning about how to survive in the wild. Make sure to bring or buy a bottle of water for the trails as it is warm even in the winter months. It looks like they are remodeling. We look forward to seeing the new exhibits. Keep up the great work!

“Recommend for families.”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

My family, Mom, Dad, Grandma, 2 children, and 1 teen, loved Calusa. The snake show was very informative. Three of us held the Albino Burmese Python. The children's favorite was the planetarium. Some of the exhibits were interactive about Florida mammals and other wildlife.
There were simple activities in the air conditioned center that the children
enjoyed and the adults could rest and relax.
