Was nice to find a hotel where all 5 family members could have space to spread out. The common room was nice for hanging out and the separate rooms made it nice for privacy. The hotel was clean. Free breakfast was good and large variety of hot/cold options. Had a little communication problem with the cleaning personnel, but they did a great job. Only complaint was 1 thermostat for the entire room/suite. Awesome room for the price.

Room Tip: We reserved the 2 bed 2 bath suite. Great option when traveling with family.

Like all Residence Inns, the suite was more than sufficient. The staff was very friendly. However, there were a few negatives to this hotel.

1. We arrived around 1 PM and were told no rooms were available yet, but the staffer took our contact information saying she would call when one became available. However, she neglected to tell us that her shift would end shortly and that she didn't plan on giving our information to the person who relieved her.

2. The smoke detector, located in the bedroom, had a light that flashed every 20-30 seconds. This was really annoying at night when we were trying to go to sleep.

3. There was a horrible odor coming from the kitchen sink drain when we arrived. I mentioned it to the staff as we were leaving for dinner that night. When we returned, the smell had diminished considerably, and after a couple of minutes we no longer noticed it. But every time we entered our room, we would catch a whiff.

4. On New Years Day, the staff seemed to have a hard time keeping up with breakfast demands because of the number of guests, but there were plenty of choices and a lot of seating (which often seems to be a problem in most hotels who provide breakfast). On our last day, breakfast included a skillet sausage mix (chopped sausage, red and green peppers, onions, and potatoes) in addition to scrambled eggs. It would have been great if the hotel had provided tortillas so people could make breakfast burritos.

5. Be aware that this is a pet-friendly hotel. When we saw people with dogs on our floor, we were concerned about noise, but we never heard them in our room. However, there were a few times there were pet smells in the hall when we exited our room.

Room Tip: The rooms on the pool side have balconies that were fairly private. If you don't have pets...

Valued Guest.....thank you for your comments and I will do my best to address each of them.

Please know that your concerns are exremely important to us and unless we hear the good and the bad, we can never be better...and this is what we aspire to do! I hope you will see my response as an honest clarification, and not as an excuse. Rest assured that I will share your posting with our Staff, so we can all learn from them.

Firstly, running full the previous night, with a noon checkout time, does make it a challenge to be able to extend an early check-in time to arrivals prior to our listed 4pm time. We do out best, but depending on room types available, etc, it is not always possible. During such high occupancy times, we are not always able to contact the listed call backs, before they return to the hotel. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

As far as the smoke detector flashing, they are for your safety but I can see that perhaps a light sleeper may be bothered by this and at this time, there is no better system to ensure your safety in the event of a fire.

In reference to the odor that emitted from your sink, sometimes items that have been cooked by previous guests should not be thrown in the disposal, but put in the garbage and I am glad we were able to get the smell under control. I will remind our Housekeeping Staff to make it a point to double check the disposals upon checkouts, so thank you for bring this to my attention.

On any day that we are serving breakfast for nearly 300 guests in a rather short period, it certainly keeps our staff hopping. I understand your thought on providing tortilllias, but they are actually one of our "made to order" breakfast items served on another day. We have a two week rotational menu that we follow. I appreciate your noticing that we tried to be proactive by opening our meeting room and adding additional seating for our guests.

As I am sure you are aware, all Residence Inns are "pet friendly" hotels. We actually try to keep our second floor as our pet floor but again, during high occupancy dates, this cannot always happen. We do have a process for those rooms where pets are and make sure that owners are aware that we cannot allow them to disturb anyone.

Again, I truly appreciate your taking time and remarks. It is our hope that perhaps we can regain your confidence and we will be able to once again, welcome you to the Residence Inn Fort Myers- Sanibel, should your travels bring you to SW Florida in the future.

Yours in hospitality,
Pam Miller

A large, multi-story facility, with the nice Resident Inn two-room suites. Great, caring staff. Breakfasts were very good but the facility had some trouble handling a large evening "reception" dinner. I was not aware that it was such a long way to the beaches and other local attractions, and the toll and parking fees on the island, but that was my fault for not checking into it before we left home. We enjoyed our patio, but had to get used to the loud roar of the air conditioners. This resort area gets a lot of hard use, but overall, still has wonderful suites. We prefer Marriott Residence Inns as a brand, but will probably choose a local hotel or rental facility on Sanibel/Captiva Island next time if we return.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the very limited patios only on the on the western, sunset view side - but be prepare...

This was our third stay at this hotel. The location is perfect for a quick getaway or an extended stay. The kitchenettes are always spotless and in perfect working order. The staff from the front desk to the room maids are helpful, cheerful and always willing to point you in the right direction. They know the area and can put you in an elegant restaurant or the dock where the freshest gulf shrimp can be purchased to boil in your room. Breakfast has always been in a tidy room with fresh offerings. While everything is "disposable" in the dining room, you can always bring it up to your room to eat with real plates and utensils. On this visit, there was a basic complimentary "dinner" served on three nights (MO, TU, WE). Great if you're on a budget but also good for a short stay. You can buy some local shrimp, a bottle of wine at Publix market next door, a salad in the dining room and you have an authentic Florida meal in the comfort of your room!
The location near the Sanibel and Captiva beaches is also perfect. Don't forget to check out the hotel pool. Usually quiet and private to catch up on lost vitamin D during a cold winter in a northern climate. Plan a sunset drink at the Mucky Duck on Captiva; you can wave to your friends on their live webcam from their beach.

Room Tip: The parking lot view rooms are adequate as this hotel is not in a noisy area.

This hotel is conveniently located near the Sanibel causeway. We have stayed at this hotel before and found the staff very friendly and helpful then and during our most recent visit. However, the furniture in our suite needs to be replaced. The sofa was stained and the chair had a slip cover because the fabric was worn out. The dining table in our suite was missing a leg and was held up by being propped against the wall. (The staff quickly replaced the table when we brought this to their attention.) The pots and pans had the non-stick finish badly scratched. We were also very disappointed by the very limited number of TV channels offered. On a positive note the guests were given a turkey dinner the day before Thanksgiving. The common areas were in very good condition.

Valued Guest......Firstly, thank you for your recent posting. We value our guests opinions and take them as opportunities to see what actions we need to take to ensure they are corrected.

There are no excuses for the lack of attention to detail that was given to your room. Each of your comments should have been noticed by our Staff and corrected prior to guests checking into that room. For this, I sincerely apologize and rest assured it will be addressed. As for the chair covers, while it is not the best solution, we are in fact, addressing concerns with the manufacturer. We are only four years old and the chairs should not be cracking as they are.

Again, thank you for bringing this to the forefront. My hope is that should your travels bring you back to SW Florida, you will allow us the opportunity to earn back your confidence and show that what you encountered is not the normal level of service our guests have come to know.

All the best for the upcoming holiday season!

Fresh, clean, convenient location
Coffee 24 hours in lobby
Nice breakfast and breakfast area

Front desk somewhat understaffed. If the person gets a phone call to ask for directions, you have to be patient in check-ing in

Pool heated, nice jacuzzi, hardly used

Beds are high, but very comfortable. Kitchen with granite counters, coffee maker, toaster, etc.
Frig. Publix in walking distance.

Will stay here again and highly recommend this hotel
