Great location for this hotel overlooking Sanibel Causeway with stop light just before bridge which allows for no waiting to cross to Sanibel Island. However, you can get caught in line backup to get to road to turn off to resort.

Stayed in Captiva Tower which I did not realize when reserving was in separate building from check in, restaurants and main pool area. No bell captain was offered or available to assist with bags on check in at Captiva Tower. Room was fine and 6th floor view was great overlooking San Carlos Pass. Pool at Captiva Tower was fine but no pool service available there.

Food was fine but pricey as you would expect at a Marriott Resort. Biggest gripe was the 'dreaded' $15/day Resort Fee. All we got for this expense was use of 2 towels in 2 days. Also, hard to justify a $12/day parking fee at such a large property especially when there is no parking lot close to main resort buildings. Marriott should do away with these 'add on' costs especially when room was over $250/night.

As Platinum Elite members, we were upgraded upon our arrival to a one bedroom suite in the Captiva Tower. Our excitement soon dissipated soon after we checked into our room. A quick look revealed a thick layer of dust covering the air conditioning/heating vent near the bed. Rather than call housekeeping, I used a towel to clean it. A closer look at our toilet revealed a large brown stain circling the bowl beneath the rim. Fearing the worst, we called housekeeping to clean it. Upon on return later that day, we discovered that the brown ring was still there. Using a towel in an attempt to clean it, I discovered that the stain was not the leftover remnants of an earlier deposit but rather corrosion. A new toilet bowl is needed. Sitting on the balcony was most relaxing as long as we disregarded the peeling paint on the railing and the dirty condition of the floor. There were two refrigerators in the suite, one sitting in the living room rather than in the small closet provided for it. Neither refrigerator had anything in it. After our first night, we did request a room change to move from the Captiva Tower to the Sanibel Tower. The gentleman at the front desk said he would check. Considering that we had only two more nights, we decided to stay put rather than pack everything and move. However, we never stayed at the Captiva Tower other than to sleep because there is nothing there to do. Only once did we use the pool which was almost always deserted. In fact, when you enter the tower either from the parking lot or from the shuttle dropoff, you see no one. The lobby where there was usally only one employee is on the second floor. The only thing you can get at Captiva Tower is coffee in the morning. Otherwise, it's room service or take the shuttle to Sanibel Tower. We communicated our feelings to the general manager in an email once we arrived home, but we never got a respoinse.

One positive note--the shuttle drivers are most polite and helpful. They even told us that beach chairs are avaialble. We took two and spent the day at a beach on Sanibel Island. Our last day, we used the spa facilities, which include sauna, steamroom, jacuzzi, and indoor pool at no charge to registered guests. Other than room service the first night of our arrival and breakfast, we never ate on the premises.

We stayed in a one bedroom executive suite on the 7th floor of the Sanibel Tower. Our sunset views over the San Carlos Bay accompanied by delicious room service, made for two romantic evenings. The room was showing a bit of age, but the views compensated very well. Decor in the living room area was very dull and needed up-dating. The windows in that room had not been cleaned for years - as there was an algae pattern obscuring the view. Management credited $50 for the dirty windows. Then the A/C started squeaking (second $50 credit). The technician sprayed some WD40 on the unit. We left for the day and when we returned the A/C noise was worse. A different technician arrived and put the panel back straight with more screws and solved the problem (another $50 credit). If we kept finding problems our $400+ a night room would have been free!! We had the best, flawless room service ever in this hotel. Everything was perfect - how the eggs Benedict were cooked, sauces on the side as requested, correct temperature of meat, etc. There were several specials each evening and they were wonderful - great seafood prepared nicely. Hotel staff was very receptive and polite. Lobby and common areas were beautiful. Valet parking and resort fees add $40 a night to the bill. Price of a Florida sunset - worth millions!!!

Room Tip: Stay in the Sanibel Tower.

Hotel in a great location with views of Sanibel and the river. Rooms a bit tired as well as the property. Enjoyed the stay but not likely to return. Other Florida Marriott properties better experience. Restaurants, bars and food good. Time for a makeover.

Jus got back from a long weekend with a best friend... just for fun and relaxation... she booked the Marriott just by the great reviews and the beautiful website... and WOW, was it a GREAT stay!
The property itself is beautiful, lush, well kept and safe. Rooms were gorgeous, all of the pools and bars/restaurants were top notch, ... even the poolside drink and food service was over the top perfection. Friendly, super nice staff, great views all around... simply OUTSTANDING!!! We had so much fun (overall) and enjoyed our stay SO much that if we could've, we would have stayed one or two extra nights. Being on a buddy pass (Standby ticket), ... we did have to leave on time. Sad, ... but I would be SURE to book this hotel again and come back to the area! It's also a short ride to Sanibel Island, where we had a great beach day, great meals... and again – just a short jaunt from our lodging. Totally worth an extra few bucks, totally relaxing stay. Well done!!!

I recently stayed her for an extended girls weekend and we had an extremely pleasant and relaxing stay. Our rooms were clean and the views were incredible. I couldnt wait until 11am everyday when they put out delicious fruit infused water in the lobby. I think they also must pump some kind of scent into the lobby, because it smells like tropical, coconut heaven. My favorite part of the resort had to be the fitness center and spa. We spent an entire half day at the fitness center. We took an aquatic zumba class (pretty entertaining considering I had never done Zumba before), and then relaxed in the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna afterwards. Pretty good deal that you can use those ammenities with or without a spa appointment.

Yes, the resort is on a harbor and not the beach but I feel it's unfair to count that against this place. It's no suprise- it's stated very clearly in their title that they are on a harbor. It also is a ways away from night life and entertainment. But there is so much to do on premise that we rarely had to leave.

Only complaint, the food in the restaurants on location wasn't the greatest and there was not much of a selection.

All in all, great experience and a perfect way to escape Chicago's miserable polar vortex!
