“Enjoyable Six Night Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

My wife attended a business conference for half of our stay and we spent the balance of our time relaxing. As others have noted, the hotel's staff were very friendly and accommodating. One exception occurred while dining at the Tarpon House restaurant. My wife ordered a glass of wine to enjoy with her dinner. After being poured, we both agreed the wine had turned. Ashton, our waitress, indicated a new bottle would be opened and a fresh glass would be poured. Before the new glass was delivered, a manager named John G. arrived at our table to advise the wine my wife had ordered was not one of his favorites and suggested she should chose a different wine. What an odd comment to make. It should be noted the glass poured from the new bottle was fine. At any rate, our room was located on the 11th floor of the Sanibel Tower. The room was very comfortable, had a wonderful view and housekeeping did a fine job keeping things tidy. We enjoyed a sunset cruise on the hotel's yacht. We agreed the filet mignon served on the yacht was our favorite meal experienced during our stay. One tip I do not recall being mentioned in previous reviews is in relation to the outdoor pools. The main pool located next to The Cove restaurant is very active. The pool located below Charley's Cabana Bar is quiet and more reserved. The sunsets are not to be missed. We would return to this hotel.

My friends and I visit every year. Each visit is better than the last one. The spa offers great treatments. (Ask for Wanda for your facial and Mahmet for massage). Front desk and concierge go put of their way to make your trip delightful.

Once a again we attended my wife's yoga retreat this past weekend. Every hotel employee we encountered was gracious, friendly and had a smile on their face. From department managers making their rounds to the person cleaning the floors. It was like they went through customer service training at The Ritz-Carlton. Amazing! Too bad many of the other guests acted like they were at an Econolodge. Why be loud & obnoxious in the guest room hallways?

Of course you want your wedding night to be perfect; especially when it's the second time around, and you are 65 years old.

And once again Marriott didn't disappoint. The room was absolutely perfect. The view was spectacular from our room, and naturally Marriott's "spirit to serve" was evident from the time we pulled up to the security shack.

The best part was the recommendation for dinner, since we are a retired couple on a limited budget the concierge recommended a little restaurant about six miles away, and it was perfect.

The icing on the cake was a bottle of champagne (and cheese plate) sent by the Hotel with a note of congratulation.

As we left our only thoughts were Wow!

Room Tip: Overlooking the water

This Resort is showing its age a bit (and there are major construction projects underway), but it still receives high marks from me. The views of the Bay, and the sunset, are amazing. The friendliness of the staff -- waiters to front desk -- is second to none. Our room was on the small side but certainly clean and comfortable. There is a very nice, large fitness center, about a 5-minute walk from the main hotel and the pool are is truly inviting. My only complaint was the limited amount of self-service garage parking -- far cheaper than the valet service. Meals are on the expensive side -- but typical for resort properties.

Room Tip: Get a room with a larger balcony!

Stayed here for a family member's wedding. One of the nicest hotels we've ever visited. From the moment we checked in the staff were amazing and really worked to make our stay special! The room was lovely with a huge bathroom. A memorable touch was the fruit water service in the lobby.

Stayed at the hotel for a wedding and wouldn't have picked it had it not been for the event. It's well set up to host weddings and seems to host many. Since we were there to enjoy the company of friends and celebrate their marriage, it was a lovely weekend. But below are critques looking at it strictly as a hotel destination.

First off the location- be sure you understand you will not be on Sanibel Island, you're east of the bridge with some views of the island, but getting there takes a toll bridge trip in a car.

There are pretty views from the hotel, but you're back in the mangroves not on open ocean so there's no beach. Water and sun-lounging are focused on the pool. On the weekend the pool can be crowded and I found it annoying that the plastic chairs are free for guests but there are all these nice looking wooden lounge chairs, but they require an additional fee to sit in them -- isn't that was the resort fee should cover?. (yes there is a resort fee on top of your room charge, valet parkign charge, etc.

Breakfast is mostly a buffet - which was good but pricey. Pushing $50 for 2 with tax and tip. There are a la carte options, but once you add coffee and such you're about the same price point. Food and drink are plentiful via the pool bar. Costs are what you would expect at a hotel delivered to the pool.

There's a "jogging trail" which appears to be mis-measured. It's about 1/2 mile loop around parking lots and older buildings - though the signs claim it's a full mile. One short piece is scenic and cuts through the mangroves ona bridge - this is worth checking out. Kayaking from the property was fun - there's a good loop that takes about 1-2hours and goes through the mangroves - worth looking into the current schedule and timing your trip for not-max current time.

Our room appeared to have been renovated fairly recently. Bathroom was clean and big (shower/toilet separated from the sink) though water pressure on a high floor was limited. View from the water-front room was nice - little balcony to sit and enjoy the view.

Staff at the hotel was very nice and accomodating. Clearly used to large groups and last minute pre-wedding questions and needs.

Valet parking was $20 a day (despite the fact we never went in or out in 48 hours). Might be worth using the self-park option which was a bit of a walk if you're looking to save a few bucks.

In short, since we were there with a large group it was easy and everything you needed in 1 place. (brillant pick by the bride to minimize wedding logistics) but don't think I'd want to go if not for a event like a wedding.

Room Tip: would have been very disappointed if we had been frugal and not picked an oceanside room.
