“Exceeded our expectations!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

We came here on a timeshare exchange and this property was perfect for our needs! First, I have to say that Marriott must treat their employees well. Every person we talked to at the front desk was genuinely friendly and helpful and seemed to enjoy their jobs! That is so rare these days. Have to give a shout out to Craig Cole, the front desk supervisor. What a great guy; always a smile and extremely helpful. Elda was very nice, too, as was everyone. I wish more resorts would understand how important customer service is to the whole vacation experience.

Having been warned about the slower elevators we really didn't find them difficult at all. We never waited more than a few minutes, except during checkout, which was expected. The building is on top of a shopping mall and we found that very convenient, and loved being able to just walk across the street to the beach. We also really appreciated being able to get chairs and umbrellas and beach/pool towels from the resort at no cost. We did not have a rental car so I can't comment on parking problems but I do have to say that it wasn't all THAT confusing to get to the right floor/elevator from the mall. After a few minutes you figure it out. And Marriott did send us a very nice informative e-mail before our vacation with a good explanation.

We had requested an ocean view and not too high (knowing the elevator situation). We were on the 7th floor which was perfect; not too close to the bottom and noise from businesses, and not so high that we had to wait too long for the elevators. We have two teenagers and even though they had to sleep on the pullout couch in our 1-bedroom unit, it was spacious enough that we didn't feel cramped.

We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our balcony, and it was nice to be able to see the pool and hot tub from our ocean view room to see who was there and if it was crowded or empty, etc. We had requested to be away from any A/C units based on other comments, and the front desk gave us a good spot. The master bedroom was lovely with a jacuzzi and separate vanity area and sink. And we slept so well; the sheets and pillows were really nice quality and the king mattress, while firm, was still really comfortable.

The whole unit was beautiful! Modern, comfortable, clean, well-maintained, and perfectly stocked/equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed and it was such a luxury to have a washer and dryer, too (and they worked very well). The cable had lots of channels and also the internet worked pretty well most of the time.

We like to make our own breakfast and lunches to save money, and with the 24-hour CVS downstairs, it was easy to do. The appliances were modern and worked very well.

As far as the amenities, we really enjoyed the heated outdoor pool and also made daily use of the two hot tubs. The pool bar was nice, too though we didn't use it much as the drinks were a bit pricey. You can also get food there. Our teens also enjoyed the outdoor ping pong table on the deck area of the activity room. It might have been nice to have a special room/area dedicated to teens that was open later (like cruise ships have). The activity room closed at 6pm on weekends and 8pm on weeknights, and so after dinnertime there really wasn't anywhere for our teens to go except the pool area. But that's a small quibble.

It was also nice to have a convenience store in the lobby, though honestly we got better deals (and a much bigger selection) at CVS so we didn't use it much. But it's nice to have it there in a pinch.

Our favorite restaurant was LuLu's Bait Shack and we had two great meals there. The other restaurants we tried were very average (Hooters and the Big Kahuna). We had heard that the Atlantic Surf Club was good but didn't get to try it. We ventured out to Deano's on Atlantic Avenue for some good pub grub and live Reggae music; that was fun. We also took the Duck Tour and used a half price Groupon, which was fun though the tour guide talked way too much. I would definitely check out Groupons for discounts in the area; there are lots of them. Didn't get to use the trolley but we did rent bikes for an hour and it was fun using the A1A bike lanes to get a nice view of the ocean.

But back to the Marriott, I want to thank everyone there for helping us have a wonderful Christmas week in Ft. Lauderdale. We will definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Make your request in advance. We asked for an ocean view, not too high up (due to elevator situation...

I read a lot before I booked this property, and I was a bit concerned, but I
traded my Marriott week at my home resort, and crossed my fingers as I took my
daughters down to Fort Lauderdale for Christmas. With one caveat, I was not
disappointed. I now see what everyone means when they say that check-in was
confusing and a complete pain. Elevators are slow and really atrocious. There
is literally no arrival driveway and you struggle to find your way to the
correct level in the underground parking lot (which is rather nasty) to find
check-in. The lot is awful - don't bring a big car--PLEASE- and there are no
luggage carts in sight - Marriott really needs to address this issue or the
resort will never really break into the next level of quality and service for
accommodations (a level to which it would otherwise be entitled). The "in and
out" of the lot daily is a major pain as well, but once you get over that, the
tower is gorgeous. I read about how it needed a face-lift, etc., . . . Well, I
guess it got one because I thought it was really lovely. It was an awesome
location, filled with adult fun (restaurants, bars, the beach), and there are no
bad views anywhere. However, if you are a family with young children--wait
until the kids are older. This is not a family resort at all, and, speaking as a
mother of 5 children (2 of whom are still in elementary school) - I found the
really young kids that were at this resort to be annoying and a damper on the
atmosphere (jumping in the hot tub with impunity, etc, parents totally
unconcerned. . . ). I was glad that I had only brought my teenagers along.
This place is gorgeous and really just for adults, which is so nice to see.
Marriott has plenty of other options for family resorts, so just take the kids
to one of the other properties until they get older and leave this one place
just for some adults who want a break. Check out the pics I posted of the
refurbished rooms and go have some fun.

Room Tip: Both sides have great views- can't go wrong on either side but the intracoastal side is gorgeous...

The rooms were spacious and nice. Note that your stay may not include maid service, don't be surprised. We didn't experience any of the problems of previous reviewers, e.g., elevators were fast. Staff was extremely helpful. Request a room on a higher level, lower level rooms on IC side look out over parking lot.

The hotel includes activities throughout the day for all ages, reminded me of a cruise.

The Marriott is highly recommend for those traveling with children. Pack n play and high chairs are provided and they have a play room and activities for the kids. Can walk to a few different playgrounds on the beach.

Just got back a few hours ago. We traded off our Hyatt in Key West. Stayed here 2 years ago - same problem with the elevators - they're SLOW & sometimes 2 of the 4 were out of order - nothing changed in 2 years.

Room (efficiency on the 12th floor) was recently redone & we were the first to use it. Bed was too firm but otherwise the room was very good and suited our needs - nothing fancy but was immaculate.

Check in/out both went very smoothly. Parking @$14/day is ridiculous & due to construction some of the entrances from the garage to the building were closed. Never paid at any other resort.

Front desk staff (3 people) didn't know that the road in front of the Marriott changes names a few blocks north (we were looking for a specific restaurant).

Would like the stores & restaurants on the first 3 floors to look a little more upscale to suit the Marriott image. They look very cheap & sleazy although we ate at Lulu's and the food was good.

This is the closest time share we can get to the clothing optional beach at Haulover in North Miami. Like having the beach across the street for the days we didn't go to Haulover.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view.

The Marriott BeachPlace Towers is located directly across from the Fort Lauderdale Beach. Great views of the ocean or on the backside, the Intercostal Waterway. Numerous restaurants and entertainment within walking distance. Great staff. Very spacious rooms.

Room Tip: Go to the upper floors for the best view.

We just got back from a week at The Marriott's BeachPlace Towers and we had a blast!

Yes, this is a timeshare resort, but we didn't have any issues with the sales staff. We declined the presentation and that was that.

This high-rise resort is right on the beach, close to all the great Ft. Lauderdale beach restaurants, close to the water taxi and a short cab ride from everything else. The BeachPlace mall is right below the resort and there are many restaurants and bars, ice cream, shopping and a CVS for basics and booze.

The rooms have been remodeled and are in great shape with very nice finishes and great kitchens with granite and stainless steel. The bathrooms were large and the master suite has it's own soaking jet tub and sliding door to the patio. We had a 2 bedroom villa with a beach view and it was great. Youngest travelers got pack-n-plays and high-chairs which were easy to use.

We were there in mid December and my youngest wanted to write her letter to Santa. We couldn't find a post office so we gave the letter to the front desk. A few hours later 'Santa' delivered to our room chocolates, strawberries, blueberries and a gift (that can't be opened until the 25th). All the things she asked for. Kudos to the staff for going way out of the way!

The gym is very nice and has a great steam room. The pool itself is small but the pool area is large with multiple hot tubs, lounge chairs, a kids splash area and a pool bar. The lobby has a business center, a concierge and a nice gift shop.

As for parking-- yes it is a cost, but if you are on vacation don't get a car. The cabs stop in front of the hotel and they are reasonable. If you are wanting to drive to the Keys get a car for the day.

The 19th floor is open to all and has a great overlook of the ocean, a few TVs and tables on the patio. Great to take a book and relax. The lobby has a 'fun deck' which is cruise ship themed for the kids. It is great--awesome staff and tons of stuff for the kids (and teens) to do.

As for things to watch-out for: The elevators are painfully slow. If you are trying to go down with baggage at checkout you may want to ride an open one up vs waiting for one with space going down. Also, many of the restaurants at the BeachPlace mall become clubs at night. We didn't have an issue (and went out a few times on the happy hour specials) but there is some noise at the lower floors on the patio. Bring Coffee-- as with all Marriott vacation clubs you only get one day of joe.

We will go back to this resort!

Room Tip: Ask for beach front room-- this may not be available during high season. If you get harbor view ask...

I just returned after 4 nights and absolutely loved our stay, the parking is not that bad as other described here - it locates on 4-5 floors and your have to go through 3 parking levels, but at low season it is not busy, the elevators are not slow waiting time from 30 sec to 2 mins. All rooms just finished renovation. Location, location. ...parking is $14 a day, less than other hotels.
