“You are never too old for Spring Break atmosphere”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

This hotel itself is nice, on par with what you would expect from a Marriott. We stayed in June for a week, in the full suite. It is nice to have a dishwasher, washer/dryer, full kitchen. We stayed just before the recent renovations, so the furniture and decor were at the end of their lifespans, but the room & contents were clean. The staff was friendly & helpful. The beach is right across the street & is nice (with exception to being somewhat dirty - cig butts, bottle caps, etc. found in the sand). The pool is fairly nice, but does get crowded around 10 a.m. & after. The major downside to this location is the atmosphere & surrounding restaurants/businesses. In the last 10 years, the area surrounding the hotel has gone drastically downhill. The hotel used to be surrounded by nice restaurants/shopping years ago. We travelled in June with a young child, and the surrounding businesses (mostly the kiosks) were entirely inappropriate for families. Tacky drug & adult themed advertisements & products were everywhere & could not be avoided as you had to walk through these areas down below to get to the beach across the street. Further, the nighttime atmosphere was basically "you are never too old for Spring Break", people in their 40's and up partying everywhere you look ... not the environment for me, and especially if you are travelling with family. You feel like you can't go out after dark, unless you are into a Spring Break type of party scene. Of course, that is personal preference. I would not stay at the hotel again, due solely because of the surrounding area. This area is not family friendly.

Nice hotel in a convenient location right next to the beach and with lots of great restaurants and bars close by. Our room had been recently refurbished and had beautiful ocean views down the coast. The hotel provided fee chairs and umbrellas to take down to the beach which was handy, and also has a pool and heated spa on ground level (which was pretty basic but did the job). Lobby and elevator were a bit dated, but the entire hotel is slowing being done up. The location is really what makes this hotel – the beach us just across the street, easy walk to all the beachside food and entertainment, and also a short walk to the water tax that can take you to down town Fort Lauderdale via the canals.

I'm extremely disappointed with this Marriott. The hotel room is beautiful but the "brand new" bed is hard as a rock. Expensive parking and paper thin walls makes this an awful experience for my husband and I who are well-seasoned travelers. We own with Diamond Resorts and will not be changing that based on this experience.

Having read the previous reviews about intercostal view being the quiet side we opted for that with a high floor and were allocated a good corner room on the 18th level (which is actually 23rd with the parking etc underneath) and while the views were great it was suprisingly noisy from the street when sitting on the balcony. Amazing how much noise can travel up that far but once inside the lovely apartments it was fine with no noise even with the window open. Despite being nearly at the top we had no issues with the lift - yes we had to wait 30 seconds or so but we were on holiday so what's the rush? Pool and terrace area far smaller then normal MVC but you go here for the beach so not unexpected and no BBQ facilities but lots of bars and restaurants nearby so not an issue. Good that you could use free chairs and the towels to take to the beach although don't expect top of the range equipment. The local restaurants were ok if you are not looking for fine dining but wanted somewhere lively with music and reasonable food - enjoyed Lulu's Bait Shack for the music. CVS for basics and not too far to drive to Publix if needed. Parking was fine if expensive. Those who had difficulty with the corners should lean to drive. Even with a hire car much bigger than my own I had no issue. Enjoyed it overall but not the usual Marriott Vacation Club resort.

Room Tip: Views great on intercostal but still noisy on balcony.

This is the 4th time we have stayed at this property. Since most of the floors have been renovated, this stay was the best so far. Room was nicely redone, nice carpet, nice HD TV with lots of premium channels, great shower, comfy bed. Have read some of the negative reviews. Don't believe all you read. Granted, you do pay $14/day parking but it's covered and out of the heat. Anyone with minimal intelligence can navigate their way around the parking facility, entries, elevators and restricted access floors. Had nothing but friendly, courteous service by the front desk staff. They actually called my room to tell me I left my cars headlights on. It is located in the middle of many restaurants, easily walkable. We always request a room at least midway on the intercoastal side. Sitting on the balcony watching the boats go by and looking at multi million dollar homes is a treat. Plus the sunset is gorgeous. Directly across the street from a beautiful beach. Shops and restaurants below didn't seem quite up to par and it seemed like they had more free entertainment in the past in the courtyard. New attached CVS made it easy for quick shopping. All in all, still one of our favorite destinations. We will return.

Room Tip: As stated - mid to upper floors on intercoastal side.

I'm a Marriott owner, so I may be biased, but this is a great property with quirks. The location is ideal, nestled in the heart of the fun at Fort Lauderdale Beach. The rooms are fantastic. Clean, spacious, well appointed, and comfortable. The shower was brilliant. The down side the property is that it is under refurbishment, and getting an elevator to go anywhere requires great patience and sometimes forcing yourself in. Parking means driving up 4 or 5 floors and paying a $15 nightly fee. The fee is probably pretty good for beach. If you can put up with some frustration trying to get from your room to anywhere, you will probably love this place. Beach, bars, great restaurants and a great atmosphere right outside your door. There is also a well-stocked CVS right outside that is very convenient. Taxis are everywhere, and people watching is world class. The pool and bar service is not as good as most Marriott properties, but less necessary when you have the beach and party just outside.

Room Tip: Ocean view for sunrise, intracoastal view for sunset. Higher and north side is better if you are on...
