“Lots of charm”
Reviewed September 24, 2011

We stayed in the spring for a beach getaway from the cold and snowy Midwest. What a delight. Lots of character, nice staff, easy parking, and best of all, an easy walk to the beach. If/when we come back to Ft. Lauderdale, we will be staying here again!

This is an awesome small resort with clean and comfortable well-decorated rooms. And a garden near the hotel is so pretty! You will need about 3-5 minutes to get to the sunny beach of Fort Lauderdale from the hotel. Mick and Patty are very friendly and helpful. We felt ourselves like at home during our stay. Thank you for our stay. For sure will come back here!!!

happycamper74,
Thanks for choosing the Tropi Rock for the second time! There are a lot of things to love about this resort. The use of the beach chairs and boogie boards, completely free of charge, are just a few of those things, and it's nice to know that there isn't any nickle and diming you find at some hotels. Some of our other hotels, like the Ocean Gate and Lush Royale even offer beach cruisers for guest use. Thanks for mentioning the dresser situation...we'll look into that for sure. We at North Beach Village Group really care about the guest opinion and appreciate your feedback.

Thank You

I will be honest, I picked this place based off a ratio of reviews versus price alone. My wife, daughter, sister, and friend of ours decided to take a quick weekend trip to Florida and unlike some of the lavish vacations we take, this trip was very budget minded and not planned at all. After scoffing at the hundreds of dollars some places charge to stay on the beach, we decided to look into some of these smaller hotels within walking distance to the ocean. This hotel was not only affordable but it had stellar reviews which is very surprising considering some of low scores many of these types of properties receive. In a bit of irony, this hotel has higher reviews than all of the big chain guys in the area.
From the get-go, manager Mick was simply one of the nicest people I have ever encountered in the hospitality business. He is the type of person that will literally give you the shirt off his back to make you happy. Out of the hundreds of places I have stayed at in my life, I cannot recall a manger with such a passion to make people feel welcome. Everything about this place makes you feel more like a guest and less like just another customer. I almost had the feeling like I was staying at a long lost relatives home in lieu of a hotel. In this day and age where personal customer service is almost non-existent in any property below $300/nt, it is refreshing to see a glimmering hope out there.
The property itself is a bit older but the landscaping is immaculate and the rooms are clean with all of the amenities we needed. The pool area was very clean and the water was odor-free (chlorine) and warm with the beach only a 5 minute walk away. Another happy surprise were his abandoned beach items which he shares with all of his guests free of charge. There are items like boogie boards, chairs, and umbrellas that other guests left behind instead of flying home with them and Mick leaves them available to all. Using the chairs and umbrellas from his “stash,” we saved $60/day in rentals or over $80 if we were to buy these items. I could easily see any other property manager charging for these items.
Our room was a bit small, but we could not expect much more considering we booked the last 2 rooms available for the weekend at the last second. We saw there were larger rooms in the hotel and my guess is the smallest rooms go to the last to book. (Something I will remember for next time.) Although small, the bed was comfortable, it had a private balcony, and overall, it was a nice room. We had a problem with the fridge on our first night and not only did Mick have it replaced immediately, he tried to reimburse us for a bottle of milk we had in it. The A/C was a tad bit noisy, but then again, I like to chill the place like an Ice box so ours was running non-stop, full throttle. 
During our trip, we decided not to rent a car, there are plenty of places to go within walking distance and if you are looking to venture out farther, cabs are pretty affordable and abundant. A cab ride to the airport is about $25 and everyplace you will want to go is well within that distance. Our average ride was about $10-$15. There is a cabby “Bruce” that lives across the street from the hotel and when I asked him to pick me up at 5:45a to head to the airport the next day, he was waiting curbside when I walked out at 5:40.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for something a little different. If you are bent on the Ritz or W, this place may not be for you, but if you are looking for uncompromised hospitality at an impeccable price, this is your place. My family and I will be returning to this property in the future and as far as I can tell, I will never have a reason to search for another hotel in FLL ever again.

Room Tip: Call and speak to Manager Mick directly. He may give you something better than the web has to offer.

Pakmann2k,
We took a little while to respond to your review because we really didn't know how to thank you for such an intelligently written and extremely kind review of the Tropi Rock. North Beach Village Group is working hard to make the area a place where people feel safe, comfortable and relaxed while still adding to the active social scene and nightlife. Your experience at the Tropi Rock is exactly why we love doing this, and your kind words are greatly appreciated. It's reviews like this that make it so gratifying and worthwhile. Again, thanks so much and we are looking forward to your next visit.

I have stayed at the Tropi Rock Resort for many years. As always, Managers Mick and Patti make you feel like family!

My latest stay, from June 5th - 25th was a bit different since I was there partly on business and usually a winter-time guest with my family. Despite the toasty weather, I was still greeted by the same beautiful secluded tropical hotel grounds, tranquil fountains, secluded brick patio and brick barbecue area, a Tiki Bar - perfect for large gatherings, poolside morning coffee/newspaper and friendly hello's from the staff and other hotel guests.

This value-rate hotel attracts many foreign guests, adding to an atmosphere that is already spiced with European design and artistic flavor. Lots of reasons that many quests return each year: the free internet room; gym; free parking; close proximity to the beach yet secluded from busy beach boulevard noise; clean rooms; near by to shopping; city bus service and the water taxi. If you are an extended stay guest, there is a laundry room for your use.

Considering the budget-minded rate, it's hard to imagine how this hotel could be improved. However, the owners are busy doing several upgrades without changing the unique Tropi Rock character. Expect more, says Mick!

As a Disability Consultant, I also rate this hotel 5 stars for providing two ADA compliant rooms, including a wheelchair entrance to the grounds and available smoke alarm for the hearing impaired.

rower71,
It's so nice to hear from returning guests, thanks so much for making the TropiRock your stay of choice. Although this resort is already a gem, with it's awesome decor, great rates, prime location and always wonderful service, North Beach Village Group is really excited about all of the great projectsthat we have in store. We are looking forward to extending the tranquility that guests enjoy at the TropiRock through the North Beach Area. Picture a plaza, relaxing sitting areas and a variety of foods.

Thanks for mentioning the ADA compliant rooms. We want to make sure that all of our guests are safe, and we are happy to providesome rooms that are wheelchair accessible and hearing impaired smoke alarms.

We appreciate your comments and look forward to your next trip. You are always welcome, whether it's for business or pleasure!

Thank You.

This is a true gem of a small hotel: great service from Mick at check-in with uniquely decorated rooms at a good price and best of all, it's CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN! This hotel is hidden from the street by a walled enclosure which helps to block out the noise, making this a quiet place to stay. The plantings are very mature, so there is plenty of shade for the rooms that ring the pool. You are only 2 blocks from the beach, and Mick will lend you towels, chairs, and an umbrella. You can easily walk to the hub-bub of down-town beachside Ft. Lauderdale for restaurants. My only concern: with all the whimsical artwork, why the bland bedding?

Summertimewoman,
Thank you for staying with us, we appreciate your feedback. Guests at the TropiRock really do get the best of both worlds...privacy when needed and yet so close to the beach and social scene! You will be excited to know that we are going to be doing some upgrades to not just this resort but throughout the entire North Beach Area. Upgrades to the area will include tranquil sitting areas and concession stands. We will definitely look into getting some bedding that stands out as much as the already awesome decor! Thanks for your great suggestion.

Thank You.
