“All around Disappointing”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

We stayed at the Sheraton Ft Lauderdale Beach for the Tortuga Music Festival. We are frequent travelers and have stayed in many many Sheraton properties, but this one was just exceptionally disappointing. To start, at check-in, there was only 1 person working the front desk, on a giant festival weekend when the hotel was sold-out, very poor planning. Secondly, the only front desk clerk was preoccupied assisting someone in leaving tickets for a guest, for over 15 minutes while the check-in line proceeded to grow. Not to mention that we had reserved a king bed room and ended up with a double bed. Who knew hotels even offered double beds? And no mini fridge. Overall, the rooms were very outdated. We ordered a pizza from room service for dinner. Maybe its my expectations of a Sheraton, but the school cafeteria microwave pizza was quite a let down. Not to mention the fact that we called room service and the front desk each three times before anyone answered the phone. The next day, we called valet for our car, twice, with no answer. The following day we ordered room service for breakfast, while they delievered half the order and double charged us. Check out was another debacle because once again there was only one front desk clerk. This hotel needs a serious overhaul.

As a long-time Starwood Platinum guest, I have had the opportunity to stay at this hotel for several years. The location could not be better - right on the beach in an upscale area of Fort Lauderdale. I don't think you could find a more beautiful location - as good as any in Hawaii or the Caribbean.

The facilities are first class: there are two swimming pools, one of which is practically on the beach, with nice tropical landscaping throughout. There are fine beach chair facilities, including umbrellas and cabanas, around the pool and at the beach.

The fitness center contains all of the equipment one needs, from free weights, excellent cardio machines, and all of the other weight training devices that could be found in a professional gym. The restaurant, Dos Caminos, provides an excellent Continental breakfast which Platinum guests can choose as an amenity. All of the public areas (both inside and out) are nicely furnished and decorated, providing a very welcoming atmosphere.

The suite provided to us was absolutely beautiful, tropically decorated with very comfortable and appealing furnishings. The views were spectacular, to say the least. It was extremely clean and obviously well maintained.

Kudos should be given to all of the staff. Everyone was both professional and very friendly. We felt like we belonged here.

Special thanks to Jean Capps - the hotel Manager. We travel with our 2 dogs (Cirneco dell Etna) and Jean provided them with a wonderful array of treats and toys. Jean is a very hands-on manager, greeting guests and seeing to it that everyone has a great experience at the hotel. We felt genuinely cared for.

There is also a free 'Mermaid' Show every Friday night in the Wreck Bar. The bar windows face onto one of the pools, with several beautiful young women in Mermaid costume performing underwater aquatics seen through the windows. For a fun event for all ages, do not miss this 30 minute show. I have posted a photo of our dogs being entertained by the Mermaids after a show.

We look forward to many more stays at this property, with several booked in 2014.

Totally not accommodating staff. No 24 hour concierge. Houese phone or Guest services take an average of 3 minutes to get on the phone. Never experienced this anywhere. This should not be a Starwood property. Was looking forward to some beach time with a birthday of our daughter and found a construction for a festival in front of our room going on (not been informed when booking, which the hotel should know). Also the hotel is under construction, again we were not informed in advance. Totally overpriced and a rip off. Breakfast is a joke. The restaurant and staff not good. Will NEVER go back here, and will complain with Starwood also.

Good ship themed hotel right on the lovely beach
Has a Starbucks and a mexican restaurant
The bar was featured in the film Analyse This. It has windows where you can see people swimming in the pool
Rooms are very comfortable. We had a corner room which was huge mind you for such a large room the bathroom was tiny
Staff friendly and helpful

First the good, the staff is friendly and try to help. The gym is very good, and the rooms are clean.

But this is not a Sheraton but rather an average Ramada hotel. The building is dated, and really badly laid out. The restaurants are dark and depressing. Dos Cominos restaurant has good food but the staff looks so miserable that they seem like they're being held hostage. The front of the hotel smelled like garbage at all times. The beach was under constant construction and the sound of machines were loud throughout the day. For some reason there was a fire truck with engines running by the beach building at all times releasing toxic fumes.

Like everyone else says, this hotel is expensive and charge you for everything; $15 for a beach umbrella, $20 for parking and $10 for wifi, which worked on and off.

This hotel has so many issues that every time I went into the lobby there was a guest complaining at the front desk.

In short this hotel needs to be thorn down and rebuilt. Perhaps moving the lobby to the Marina building would help.

This is an embarrassment to Starwood and requires major attention.

I'm never staying here again.

We stayed here pre cruise and had a decent experience. As other reviewers mention, the layout of the hotel is really strange with buildings everywhere. I could understand why some would also feel the rooms were "musty," ours could have been, but I turned up the AC when I left the room and came back and it was totally fine. It really was not a big deal. I would not want to have stayed here for a weeks vacation but, , admittedly, I do prefer a much higher end hotel/resort and it would have cost MUCH more. This was one night and it did the trick. The rooms were clean, number 1 priority! Also, the location on the beach is excellent. I felt for the time we were there that some of the beach/chair staff was friendly and others not so much. The chairs were free, but the one guy really didn't want to set us up--they closed at 5 pm and our first day we didn't arrive till 4. However, the next Morning, another guy (forget his name he was from Jamaica) was nice as could be and could not have been more accommodating. Most of the staff was really very good. We ate in the Mexican restaurant which was good. My kids loved swimming to the windows in the shipwreck bar (see other pixs). It was fun. Beds were very comfortable, slept well.

Room Tip: May want to ask which building you will be in if you have a preference. Not sure which ones are bett...
