“Time to go in to dry-dock”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013 via mobile

Stayed recently just prior to a cruise. The ship looking bldg is looking and feeling due for a renovation. The room was slightly dated ( and I think the cleaning staff has no clue about dusting). We had lunch by the pool and the service was much better than our previous stay here. Expect to pay ( with tip) about 20 to 22 in taxi fare from FLL to hotel and about 17 to the cruise port. However, do not leave the hotel just prior to the top or bottom of the hour (i believe this is when the bridge on 17th street goes up for a couple minutes). You really dont want to pay taxi fare for going nowhere. The beach chairs are free and it is a nice beach. The pools are standard (not nearly as nice as nearby Marriott). During our stay the ship bldg was undergoing outside renovations but it seems that the workers start somewhat early if you wanted to sleep in (by 8 am). We did not eat at the main rest. ( i dont like Mexican). If you can get a fair price, it might be worth your time. However, after a half dozen stays here i think its time for us to change ships. If you want to grab some grub, try the deli like place near the marina ( about a 4 minute walk north on canal side of the blvd).

Having struggled to find a hotel in Fort Lauderdale over the New Year period that we liked and that didn't cost an fortune, we finally settled on the Sheraton. We had booked a room in the Beach Tower and were pleased with it. The picture window overlooked the volleyball courts and had a side view of the sea. I was surprised the window didn't open.

The hotel is made of of several buildings connected by a walkway which bridges the road. The pool is smallish and by mid afternoon is in the shade of the hotel building - as is a lot of the beach - so if you want to sunbathe all day be careful where you sit or you may have to move.

We ate in the Wreck Bar a couple of times - the burgers were fine, as was the draft beer.

Internet access was chargeable in the rooms but free in the lobby and there was a small area with computers and printers for guests to use free of charge.

I must admit we didn't really have high expectations of this hotel - but we were pleasantly surprised - its not the best hotel we have stayed at but it was OK.

The concierge was helpful and we received a list of recommended restaurants - one of which, Coconuts, was great and is well worth a visit.

We also bought a water taxi day pass - $26 each (cash only from the concierge) and you can get on and off at the 10 stops as often as you like. I assume they are mainly used by tourists as the water taxi staff give a bit of an impromptu guided tour as you go along, pointing out the waterside mansions of the rich and famous - and as many of them were still decorated with their Xmas lights, we did a second trip in the evening to see them in their full glory.

What a dump. Nice location but an outdated dump that should have been replaced in the 80's. there is no heat in any of the buildings so if its chilly outside, tough luck. Windows do not open. Popcorn ceilings and municipal green stucco interiors. Room service food was not fresh, appeared left over from day before.
Would not recommend anyone to stay here.

The room that we were given through Priceline was awful. Not only was it old and tired, there were tiny bugs crawling all over the faux wood furniture. The shower in the bathroom is equivalent to a Motel 6 complete with the water temperature randomly changing from scalding to freezing. The inwall air conditioning was very noisy, Overall, other than decently quality bed linens, the room was dreadful. The staff are wonderful, very friendly and professional. I am astounded that Sheraton would put their name on such a decrepit hotel and I am even further dismayed that anyone would give it a 4 Star rating.

Room Tip: The only rooms in the hotel that would be acceptable are in the small "Beach Tower" with t...

This is a great hotel right on the beach and easy walking to shops and restaraunts. The rooms are good with great views, the staff friendly and helpful but to eat and drink at this hotel is very expensive. I would stay here again but not eat or drink. There was a great little bar across the street and down a block that was much more reasonable

I stayed here for one night, for a business meeting that was held at the hotel. There were no king bed rooms available, but the double room I was in had a really nice beach view so I was happy. I ordered room service and it arrived quickly, was hot, and reasonably priced. The staff was very nice and eager to accomodate.

My only complaint was that the room smelled a little funny, but it wasn't unbearable. The next day, we ordered breakfast for our meeting, which was held in a different building across the street which was accessible via a skybridge that had an amazing ocean view. Breakfast was yummy and hot. The conference room that we used was attached to a really nice deck and I suggested that we have our meeting on the deck. lol. The conference room had floor to ceiling windows and an ocean view. I don't think there's a bad view anywhere.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel, it is a great blend of business and leisure.

We stayed in Fort Lauderdale for a couple of days before our Celebrity cruise, so we chose this hotel for convenience as it came as a package. We had room 739 in the South Tower (on the preferred guest floor) – ironically, we got confused with the lift, as we hadn’t noticed there was a “L” (lobby) floor, like our “G” ground floor, and pressed 1 by mistake the first time we went outside!

The room was nice enough, and had a lovely view of the sea (with the roof of another tower). There was a coffee maker (which just about coped with tea), and we asked at reception for two cups and saucers (not wanting to drink out of a paper cup!). Do be careful with the coffee maker when making two cups, as the water can spurt out of the top when refilling the machine.

One side of the hotel is under renovation (although we didn’t hear any noise) – meaning that one of the swimming pools isn’t available, and the other one was quite a trek to another building, through a car park. We were also disappointed that the hotel didn’t have a jacuzzi.

For breakfast, thanks to other Trip Advisor reviews, we went across the road to the Bahia Cabana which was shabby, but oh so splendidly American and had a lovely view of the canal and the Jungle Queen! We also bought things in their shop, which were much cheaper than over the road at the Sheraton (washing powder was $1.10 compared with $5!)

We were only there one full day, so we decided to take the Water Taxi, which stops over the road by the Bahia Cabana – well worth the $20 per day – (they take credit cards). If you’re there in December, don’t miss doing that at night, when all of the Christmas decorations are lit up.
