“Relaxation”
Reviewed July 20, 2010

I'm very picky when it come to cleanliness especially since I have young children. This hotel has exceed my expecations. Service from valet to customer service to a great tasting "The Breezes" resturant was excellent. Pool was good, a little chilly, but you got the beach right there. If you go be sure to stay in the tower bldg so you can get a good view of the beautiful Ft. Lauderdale.!

This was my second stay at the Bahia Mar and will be my choice for future trips to Florida. Great value, staff and location. My past career was in hotel management. I worked at 3 Manhattan hotels so I'm very aware of what hotels are doing right and what they are doing wrong. No complaints with this property whatsoever. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Our first trip in summer, having stayed many times in the winter over past 20 years. Accommodates families, individuals with everything from a bridge to the beach, now with chairs and umbrellas, to a beautiful pool with casual dining. They handle meetings, but never interfere with the leisure travelers, Excellent shops and walking distance to the Lauderdale waterfront activities. Excellent parking, surrounded by a yacht basic with fishing, sightseeing boats and water taxi service. Superb value for money. We will return!

My stay was a bit between leisure and business. I live in Bequi, which is the first island south of St. Vincent. I'm selling my home and looking for a place to live. The reception and service I received made me feel that Ft. Lauderdale is the place where I want to live. If the employees of Bahia Mar are repressentative of the people in Ft. Lauderdale, I'm in. The atmosphere at Bahia Mar was great, though she needs a face lift, everything was as expected. I had occasion to observe the General Manager handle a difficult guest. He was very professional in resolving all issues. All lobby and housekeepers were very attentive, not only to my deeds but to everyone they came in contact with. The evening bartender was most accomodating, friendly with directions and hotel information. I'll be back.

I was disappointed in the hotel facility... the property is run down. Starting with the elevator - scratches and markings on the wall - it created a poor first impression. The room was just plain and run down. The "balcony" was not a balcony, but a spot you could only stand on and look over into the parking lot... yes, we could see the marina and beach from it, but the structure was rusted and yellowed. We had to turn the air conditioning off because it smelled moldy. The TV made a loud noise. The pool area was nothing special. There is no refrigerator in the room - which would be nice to have. The hotel room was not dirty, it just is dingy and run down... the place needs to be updated. On a positive note, the pillows and bedding were very nice and comfortable... and the hotel staff was helpful and very nice. Oh, we also went fishing on the Flamingo party boat, right outside the hotel and recommended by the hotel concierge, but we were disappointed in that too. The mate was rude and used bad language... and it just wasn't kid friendly. I love fishing, but couldn't wait to get back to the dock.

Stayed for a week with a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old (who is also a wheelchair user). The room we got had two queen-size beds, but we got a roll-away in addition to avoid the siblings having to sleep in the same bed... The room was actually large enough for this configuration, and with a big bathroom there was plenty room for a wheelchair user. But the air conditioning apparently didn't work too well; we felt humid, and the bedsheets felt humid. It was noisy too, so we had to shut if off at night to be able to sleep.
One of the coffee mugs in the room wasn't clean when we arrived, but that didn't happen again.
The beach is just across the road, and we had plenty of space there as the Bahia Mar is sort of a lonely hotel on this stretch. There is a convenient walkway from the hotel over the road to the beach, but this is inaccessible for wheelchair users (and families with trollies) because of steps in each end. Wheelchair users are presented with an awkward detour to get to the pool, too.
The pool was very nice, although many guests must have been sloppy in rinsing off sand before going in - the steps into the pool were quite sandy. The poolman wasn't working overtime to get rid of it either.
There are two places to get meals on the premises; either the hotel's own Breezes Cafe or the All About Food deli, also on the premises. The latter was our choice throughout the stay - reasonable prices and OK food. Other meals can be had along the beach promenade starting a couple of hundred metres north. The best meal deals are however had at the cafes at the Galleria Mall, but that's a $10 taxi drive away.
Parking was $18 per night, but we only parked there two nights. I suppose that's what you have to expect in this area.
The hotel is only a 10 minute drive away from Ft Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, which is very convenient.
All in all we had a good stay at the Bahia Mar, but the 1975 tower with wall-to-wall carpets is telling its age. We got a reasonable summer deal, so with that in mind we think we did good. We'll be looking for a hotel with kitchen facilities in the room next time, though.

I went with a female friend on a first weekend trip so I was concerned about the :woman friendliness," i.e. total clean and shine. It was fine, not perfect. If your date says it's not nice enough, dump her, because she's too high maintenance. The beds are fabulous, not too soft, not too firm, great pillows and sheets. The oceanview rooms are really ocean view AND marina view, and the view is breathtaking. The walk to the beach is 100 yards and there's an elevated walkway. The exterior of the building could use a pressure wash, and some fresh paint. 2.50 for a soft drink at the pool bar was a bit steep. Another minor problem is there are only two elevators in the main tower and it gets congested, and the stairs are not usable because the fire doors lock behind you. It would be nice if they spent ten thousand bucks to pretty up the rear entrance to the parking lot. All in all, it's a yes
