“Outdated, but clean and good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

Definitely stuck in the 80's...needs a major up-do. Orange decorations could go. But the room was clean and the view was nice. The pool was nice, but FREEZING (not heated.) Walk across the street to the beautiful beach and lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Pool bar...Cost $26 for 2 mudslides that were so small they were gone in 2 sips...beer was pricey too. Go elsewhere to drink!

Room Tip: High floor had great views...

I have had to lower the rating on this hotel, only because the place for the most part is still stuck in the 80's. They are updating in some areas, but....the only place to eat is in the middle of the lobby, and doubles as the bar as well as the breakfast/lunch cafe and the "dining room"....
The food was very good for both the breakfast buffet & the take out dinner we had, but a bit pricey for the breakfast buffet.
We had a bit of an issue with our arrival time, as we got off the cruise ship at 10:30, arrived at the hotel by 11:00 am, and check in isnt until 4PM ... as our luggage held our swim suits, we couldn't really make use of the pool, and we didn't want to wander too far just in case our room became available sooner. Their suggestion of giving our cell phone # to them so they could call us was fine, but our phones were "roaming" and if you couldn't connect to an open wi-fi, there was no sense. By 1:30PM the bell-man approached the desk, and pleaded with them to upgrade us, and accomplished that -- we got a great room in the tower with a fab view of the beach, and the marina. Thank you for that.
John (bellman) also suggested several restaurants in the area, and we took him up on several of them. See our review of restaurants.
Would we go back there? if we got the same type of upgraded room, yes. The pool area was very nice, kept clean & tidy, and the walkway to the beach was a nice convenience.
It was also a surprise to find that one of the front desk staff was a re-located Canadian!

Room Tip: The tower rooms have the best views, no matter which direction .... very tiny balconies(no room for...

Across the street from the beach, tons of beach shops around. Breakfast was okay, must pay extra for hot. We have Hilton Honors, so breakfast was free. The hotel has been redone in the last couple of years. The pool is on top of the building next door. Skywalk to beach is nice. Concierge was great, got us a cab and suggested great places to go on Las Olas.

The hotel was clean but I was extremely disappointed about the lies and misleading information we were given. We were told on the phone parking would be $19; however, when we arrived we were told we were not allowed to self park & valet parking would be $23. Secondly, we thought that the cereal, fruit, eggs etc that were set out were part of a free continental breakfast. Unfortunately, after grabbing a small plate of food and recieving a $42 bill (for two) we learned that it wasn't. There were no signs & no one told us that we would be charged. After going up to the desk to ask why we were charged I was told that the entire breakfast is $17 & the continental breakfast (cold items only) was $9 & you don't receive a free breakfast if you receive a discount on your room. Would have been nice if they had informed us about this during check-in or by putting a sign near the food.

During our stay at Bahia Mar hotel I and my daughter met two wonderful women at the front desk (concierges Ellen Butler and Patricia Leight). They were so kind to help us to find the best seafood restaurants in Fort Lauderdale with fantastic service and great, delicious food which we enjoyed a lot.
Ellen and Patricia searched the internet, printed out directions and menus, gave us a water taxi schedule and location so that we easily find the place. They also helped us daily with water bottles, any other room supplies that we needed on a daily basis during our stay, luggage, taxi, etc.
Ellen and Patricia were very helpful and friendly, answered multiple questions that we had. They were always able to find time for us and provided a great customer service.
We are very thankful to these carrying and polite ladies for their wonderful attitude and great attention to us. We will definitely come back to Bahia Mar hotel again!

Wednesday evening as i was checking out, the two valet were extremely rude to my friend, one named"evis" and the other one was a african american man. both of them threatened my friend. Evis said "you dont know who your messing with, dont think i will keep my mouth shut just because im wearing my uniform, I will give you my address, come after my shift." WOW!. What happen to our hilton standards? I, myself work at a Hilton and ive never heard some one speak like this. No matter how wrong a guest is, you apoligize and say the guest is always right. I was Surprised. The worse service ever.Never coming back to this hotel!

Hotel is right across the beautiful beach of Ft Lauderdale with overpass from the buildings to the pool, main lobby, restaurants and the beach.

Personnel is just simply awesome and very helpful. (The only concern was we did not get a room with balcony. But actually it is not a huge issue, since we are not here to stay in the balcony...)

Our room was in the smaller and older Marina Building, the best spot if you want to have the comfort of a 3-star DoubleTree by Hilton and the quiet of a romantic or just a relax-centric getaway. The room was clean, safe, neat, comfortable and pleasant, huge and comfortable queen beds, clean beddings, coffe-maker, fresh coffee daily, refrigerator, huge flat-screen TV with 36 channels (including HBO channels), phone, plenty of fresh and clean, different sized towels, laundry service, iron and supplies for ironing, big walk-in closet. Bathroom is clean, ambient, toiletries are replaced daily, hot and cold water.

The building is in good shape, clean, safe (entry with card, safe pool area with bar, fitness facilities, shops and restaurants, and very close to the glamorous Ft Lauderdale Beach area, shopping district, restaurants, bars, the famous Las Olas Blvd.

The Boward County City Bus stop is right in the front of the building. Route 40 takes you to Galleria Mall (great shopping place, Macy's, Publix Supermarket, upscale restaurants etc) or to Downtown Ft Lauderdale, and can also connect you to the Line 1 to FLL - Hollywood Airport. Travel time is 40 minutes (check schedules ahead online), the fare is $1,75 ($0,85 for Seniors) or you can purchase $4 All-Day-Passes. Famous and funny SunTrolley route has a stop in the front of the hotel, as well. Gets you to most important points of interest, $0.50 for a trip, or $2 for day-pass. I wouldn't bother to rent a car...

Across the building, on the beach there are lot of sports places, basket ball yards, great conditions for the daily work-out and fitness.

The area is gorgeous and safe.

We loved it. I will definitely come back here and would recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Since we don't just want to see the ocean, was not very important to pay extra $$$ for a half-oc...
