Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach - a Doubletree by Hilton Hotel
Ranked #55 of 127 Hotels in Fort Lauderdale
Reviewed February 16, 2008

Recommend for one day stay and for cruisers.
The good:
Excellent staff, these folks are one of the best resort staffs we've ever had! Location for both beach and marina; room size was very big - main room, separate room for hanging clothes and getting dressed and storing luggage and very nice sized bathroom. Several nice places to eat in the area; call front desk if you need a small fridge and they will bring one to your room; pool area was also very nice.
The bad:
Building is old and the rooms can have small problems you'll notice after a couple of days. Getting your room cleaned can be a major chore (send me an email for particulars). Prices are very high (example - beer was $7) and a small breakfast buffet was $13. Furniture in room was in dispair and tv was very old.

My review:
We stayed at the Bahia Mar for four days and while the place is very old, the service was excellent. We stayed there since they have smoking rooms, and believe me, it's getting very hard to find a hotel where you can smoke at in Florida.
Anyway, our room had a full port view and partial ocean view, which was perfect for us. It was wonderful watching the ships (5 sat, 6 sun, 3 mon & 0 on tue) come in to port and leave later in the day. The rooms have a very small balconies, just big enough to step outside, however it was good enough for us. We could open the sliding glass doors and get a very nice breeze and also hear the ships horns during muster drill and leaving the port.
Very nice walkway (above ground) to both beach and pool area.
Very close (3 minute walk) to water taxi which we used all the time.
We spent about an hour a day in the mornings outside of the lobby chatting with folks who were getting ready to cruise. Wonderful way to start the day!
Overall:
As said above, for cruisers this place is hard to beat for one night.

I stayed there in Januaury 07', and returned in 08' with a friend this time. I was greeted warmly by the front desk, valet personnel, and all staff I came in contact with.
This Hotel has a great location, great price and a great staff!
The onsite Deli may seem to be overpriced, but the size and quality of your sandwich is outstanding. Its also convenient if your heading out fishing right next to the hotel.
See you guys next time...(I'll bring the soft pretzel's again!)

Our stay at this hotel was for two periods of 7 days and 5 days before and after our cruise and we found the hotel to be a great place to relax near to the beach and all the restuarants as well as the cruise port and shops of Galleria.

The water taxi is a great bonus and is a lovely way to travel around Fort Lauderdale at leisure.

Comments have been made about the hotels condition and so on but we found the hotel to be in great conditions although we did get upgrades to the tower which gave us an ocean view room on both stays.

Both rooms were very fresh and well furnished and maintained, the balcony is modest but lovely for watching the sea and relaxing.

The free internet access in the lobby is a great bonus and is a facility which all hotels should provide, we would like to mention the staff as well who could not have done more for us.

We will stay here again God willing .

stayed here for 2 nights prior to a cruise arriving Xmas Day afternoon. Booked the hotel with an open mind after reading various mixed reviews on TA anwas pleasantly suprised when we checked in

Our room was a sea view on the 14th floor and was clean and tidy - yes the rooms do need a bit of a refurbishment and the lifts are slow but I have stayed in worse places in Europe

The bar is a bit quiteon a night, the breakfasts are good and the pool area and snack bar are excellent

we ate one night at the Coconuts restaurant just past the swimming museum recommended on a previous review and it was excellent -if we had been staying lomger I think we would have ate there every night

It was our first trip to Florida and Fort Lauderdale and were impressed with the place as well as the hotel and would have no quarms in returning to it

We traveled to Ft. Lauderdale for a dance competition my daughter had. We stayed at Bahia Mar this past weekend since it was so close to the Broward Convention Center. I was extremely pleased when we arrived 2 hours before check in that they had two rooms available. I requested connecting rooms, they asked if we could wait a couple of hours they would be available. They would hold our luggage for us while we waited. We decided to get something to eat and loved the fact that there were a lot of eating establishments near by. All of us (10) decided to go for a walk to get something to eat while we waited for the room. It was so nice to be able to enjoy a walk by the beach. Of course living in Florida we just take advantage of it and not really take the time to enjoy it. After a few hours we returned to the hotel and as promised the rooms were ready.

We went up to find very clean rooms. Much to our surprise as well they needed to deliver a rolling bed and it was already there. We needed some extra pillows and blankets, above what they already had there, and it was delivered very promptly.

The staff was very prfessional and pleasant to speak with.

Oh before I forget we were able to enjoy their breakfaat buffet on Sunday and it was ablsolutely delicious. The food's temperature was good and the orange juice was deffinitely Floridian.

I would as well as those that stayed with me recommend this hotel for any of your needs. I wish our stay had been longer.

After an 8 day Cruise with Carnival over Christmas, we had a few days left in FLA. I spent a great deal of time researching a suitible location to spend those days. Being from western Canada, we made sure that our remaining time wasn't wasted. By picking the Bahia Mar, we very Very happy with our choice. Its not the newest or the largest in the area, but it was very clean, the grille was excelent, and the staff was top shelf! I say this because not only were they meet a high
standard of service but also, since we had a booking issue with our 3rd party online agent, it could have left us without a room, but Rey at the front desk not only resolved it, but I'm sure pulled a rabbit out of his hat to correct the situation.

As I said the food was great. The pool clean and well attended. The walkway to the beach was perfect to navigate the traffic and the deli mart attached to the resort grounds was a great snack and place to pack for the beach as well.

Near by are some of the best restuaraunts on the beach, and great shops a walk away. We normally rent a car in FLA, but with the Bahia Mar's location there was no need. The water Taxi is a must to get around and see the sights, plus #40 bus goes right to the Galleria Mall.

In closing, let me reinterate the value we recieved for out stay was high, a definite return that our family is looking forward to. If you have read some negative reviews , as allways some people just can't be
satisfied. Speaking from experience of 20 years of meeting peoples expectations, the Bahia Mar provides, a great holiday location.

We stayed for 2 nights during Christmas week. We booked the older section because it was less expensive but were immediately upgraded to an ocean view room in the newer tower. The room was clean and large. The only minus side was the water coming out of the facuets...I guess it's Florida water that looks yellow, because the bathwater had a yellow tint. I asked the front desk and they said that is what it looks like. That was kind of disconcerting. So we made sure we had bottled water all the time. The pool was nice and access to the beach was great with an overpass. It was very close to Las Olas Blvd. with all the restaurants and shops.

Parking was $18. I wasn't aware that we had to pay when I booked the hotel. That was the only other disappointment.
