We stayed at the Lago Mar on Dec 17 and 18th after a cruise, and we loved it. the hotel itself is beautiful and classy. It is maintained perfectly, everything is painted, polished and gorgeous. The front office staff was very nice, and the doormen and concierge were pleasant and helpful. We were shown to our room by William, who was very friendly and happy. We had a deluxe poolside one bedroom suite, and it was very, very nice. There was no musty smell like there sometimes is in a tropical place. The Bed was comfortable and the sheets were luxurious. The room had a small kitchen area, clean as a whistle, complete with all dishes and pans you would need and a small bottle of dish liquid and dishtowel. The refrigerator is full sized, with plenty of room. You could easily spend a couple of weeks in total comfort there if you go to the store for a few things to cook in the room like we did. Theres a huge living room, dining area, 2 bathrooms, and 2 TV's. The property has 2 big, beautiful pools, heated and really clean, with plenty of chairs. I guess during the week would be a little nicer than on the weekends, because there were dozens and dozens of kids everywhere. They were behaving, but they make a huge amount of noise, you'll have to bring an ipod if you don't want to listen to it, we didn't but we wished we had. The food was kind of hit or miss. The soda shop made a really good ham and turkey on a croissant, and the fries at the ocean grill were great. We didn't use the beach but walked down there to look. Nicely maintained and private, but found it a bit strange that they want even the hotel guests to pay to rent a chair or umbrella. They have them all chained up. The chairs are already owned by the hotel, and they're already on the beach, it's not like it's going to cost anything to let someone sit in a chair. Weird for such a classy place, but we didn't use the beach anyway so it didn't matter.
All in all a nice place, would definately stay again, and would recommend it highly. We've stayed at other hotels in the area before and this was by far the nicest, and it was a little less expensive than the one the cruise ship was offering. Really, the only negative thing was that somewhere below us, there was a door that kept slamming, and it shook the whole area around our room. Luckily they stopped using it about 11 p.m. thankfully, because it was really loud.
