“Liked the hotel, housekeeping is weak”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

I enjoyed the hotel, accommodations are good, housekeeping was fair at best. Make sure you are clear with housekeeping about vacuuming and not just making the beds. Lots of good restaurants and shopping near by. Take the 50 cent trolley to the beach for convenience.

Room Tip: rooms above the third floor seem quietest

I've stayed at this hotel on a few occasions, but this experience was different than the past.
We checked in about an hour early and our rooms were ready, which surprised me because in the past the rooms were never really ready on time. So, we checked in and as I entered my room I noticed a strong smell of cigarettes. If they would have had the on the air conditioners it may not have bothered me as much. It was 85 degrees and the room was hot and smelly.

I went downstairs and I asked " what made you give me a smoking room?". She said that we can move you if you like. What do you mean, I asked, I never requested a smoking room, plus the fact that I don't smoke. Well, I was moved to another room, which didn't smell any better.

At this point I just wanted to unpack and go to work.

We asked the concierge about restaurants listed in hotel brochures and she had no clue about any of them, even after we brought down the books and showed her. I have never seen such a clueless concierge when referencing a hotel brochure. So we decided to strike out on our own to find the places listed in the HOTEL brochures.

The beds were comfortable and the midnight staff were excellent and helpful. The breakfast staff were excellent and actually gave an d cooked what I asked for this time.

This stay would have been better I'd my first impression would have been better. This hotel is still a great deal for the location and its proximity to the cruise lines.

Due to this last experience I will now consider non-Hilton hotels when in this of the country.

Cheers
Marylandvacation

We stayed before and after our cruise in December and enjoyed our time. Hotel is well located for cruise transfers and the shuttle is fairly priced and convenient. The room sizes are excellent and the breakfast was reasonable given that it was complimentary. It can get busy on cruise days as a lot of people come in and out on Satudays and Sundays but this is to be expected. We would stay again and would probably spend more time in Fort Lauderdale as it felt a nice city.

This hotel is one of the properties used by several of the cruise lines using the Fort Lauderdale/Port Everglades Cruise terminal. They are accustomed to dealing with large groups of people and handling luggage for the airport/cruise terminal transfers, and have several dedicated areas throughout the main floor for cruise passengers.

The hotel itselt is built around a beautiful central atrium or courtyard with waterfalls and fountains, however, it can be very noisy at times. We were fortunate in that we had a room on the top floor where it was quiet. The room itself was comfortable and spacious, and was well appointed. The only odd thing is that the walkway to the other suites on each floor passes directly outside the bedroom window, so it is impossible to leave the drapes open even a little to admit natural light as people passing by are able to look right into the room.

The staff was professional and helpful, even during the most stressful of times when literally two hundred or more cruise passengers were gathering there for the night and checking in and out at once. They have a great system down to handle the volume of people, and never seem to get frazzled.

There is a free breakfast buffet, but not a lot of seating in the dining area, but it is a short walk to the lobby area where you can find a place to sit with a cup of coffee, of which there is an endless supply. There is also a small gift shop in case you forgot any last minute travel items, and ample, clean restrooms on the first floor off the lobby and dining area.

We will most certainly stay here again the next time we cruise.

Room Tip: Select a room near the top floor if you want to be above the noise echoing in the atrium area.

Stayed at ESFL for two nights before cruising out of Fort Lauderdale. Perfect location near Publix, Ross Dress for Less, trolley service, and numerous restaurants. Free drinks & appetizers from 7-9 in the hotel. Pool that the kids liked and a very mediocre fitness room. The rooms aren't 5-star but they're large and clean. We made arrangements for a shuttle service from the hotel to the port, and were quoted $4 per person (it's only a 5-minute ride), but when we got all of our luggage loaded, the shuttle "manager" rudely announced that it's $7 per person. Nice little bait & switch for the 9 of us, but considering how long you have to wait for a shuttle we didn't have much choice but to pay it. Writing this review is fulfillment of my promise to the driver that we'll be happy to warn as many people as we can about their shady business.

We needed two rooms for one night pre-cruise during what is probably one of the busiest times of year.

PROS
Loved the included breakfast. It offered so much more than we expected.
The Managers reception was also very good. I hadn't planned on attending but returned from shopping early and enjoyed the snacks and drinks.
The design and holiday decorations in the atrium were very nice.
We found the location quite handy for our needs. The Harbor Shops located at the back of the hotel met all of our needs for last minute items, alcohol and meals. We especially enjoyed the Five Guys burgers.
The best part about this hotel had to be the staff though. Without exception, every single staff member we encountered was friendly and polite. They went out of their way to make our stay memorable, especially Jeff, with whom I spoke before we arrived. I've been in hotels all over the world and I have never experienced such a universally personable and helpful staff.

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
As other posters have mentioned, the rooms themselves, while spacious, are dated. We had one room on the top floor and everything worked fine. It comfortably slept three adults. We also had a room on the smoking floor which did not get such good reviews. It had some minor maintenance issues (fridge not cooling well, toilet needing two flushes etc.) but I think the hotel handled this well when we mentioned it at check out.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to others.

As per other reviews, this hotel is the perfect pre/post-cruise option. My family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) stayed for 2 nights (13-15 Dec, '12) pre-cruise. We were advised (by the hotel, actually) to take a taxi from the airport instead of the slow shuttle service. Taxi (that fit all 5 of us plus bags!) was approx $11 from airport. Check-in was smooth and room was as per usual Embassy Suites. (Great toilet flushing power, fwiw!). Managers reception a huge disappointment: very poor quality wines and cocktails and snacks consisted of pre-made popcorn and chips with salsa. Very crowded (not unexpected, what with the free offerings, but really not worth the visit). Breakfast was good, though coffee was disgusting (when you could find some). Seems the staff would only half-fill the large coffee urn. Omelette station was great! However, if what you need is a good coffee first thing in the day, Starbucks is a short 3min walk away and well worth the trek. There is also an Einstein Bros bagel shop, in case you prefer a quick, yummy bagel breakfast. Nighttime food options abound: we enjoyed Pei Wei, owned by PF Changs, just down the road; but there were plenty of other great dining options. The Harbour Shops next door offers fast food dining (incl a Five Guys, Mo's Southwest Grill yum!) and a Publix). Also down the street a Carrabas, a Chipotle Grill and a Shulas. Total Wine is a great place to stop to pick up a few bottles of wine to enjoy pre cruise; we also picked up 2 bottles to enjoy onboard the ship. Ross store across the street offers the opportunity to shop for all your cruise wear needs at low low prices -so no need to pack anything before you head out on the ship! With an extra day in the area, we decided to head to the beach. We hopped on the Sunshine Trolley service ( pick up in front of Publix) (50 cents /person each way, or $2 for a day pass) Also takes you the the Las Olas shopping zone etc). Finally, the trek to the cruiseport is nightmarish, beginning with trying to get an elevator!! Once you actually make it downstairs, the next obstacle is transportation to the cruiseport. If you are taking the shuttle service, people were swarming the lobby and driveway area. At $7/person, it was more economical to take a taxi-we asked the hotel to preorder one for us the day before, and were assured this was done. Taxi didnt arrive at prearranged time and we asked concierge to follow up with the taxi company, which they didnt do, despite assuring us they would. Hotel obviously has an arrangement with the shuttle company and not in their interest to help us find a taxi. Moral of the story - leavye yourselves plenty of time to get to your ship!( its only a 10 min drive away and taxi fare was in the $11 range for all 5 of us and our bags!!). Despite a few shortcomings, still a great place to stay on either end of your Cruise vacation!

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter

Thank you for giving us detailed feedback into your experience. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay, our convenient location and amenities. We do have several coffee stations at breakfast. The coffee station you are referring to is our satelite station. I am sorry that you did not see the main coffee station that has three automatic coffee machines. We strive for the Manager’s Reception to be a stress-free, relaxed, social environment where guests can unwind from their day; I sincerely apologize that this was not your experience. I'm also disappointed to hear about the missteps regarding your transportation requests and appreciate you allowing me to follow up with our team. I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience. We do offer shuttle service at $7 per person and do inform guests of the taxi cost to the port as well as from the airport. The taxi cost is about $11-15 for each ride depending upon wait time. Because of all the luggage people bring, most people can only fit 2 people per cab with luggage. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the guest experience and reviews like these provide insight. We hope to see you again soon. Again thank you for staying with us and look forward to a repeat visit.
Sincerely.
