No need to rent a car unless you plan to drive to Miami or Boca Raton.
Everything is within walking distance and the concierge and front desk attendants were happy to make great recommendations. There are also 2 Trollies that you can ride all day for $2person. One Trolley will take you to Las Olas - popular street with great restaurants and shopping. The second Trolley will take you to the Galleria Mall, grocery store, convention center etc. (Hotel does not offer shuttle service to/from the airport.)
Many people complained about the $28+tax Valet parking fee (valet only). When we arrived on Saturday - the neighboring city/public beach parking lots were $20. On Monday the priced dropped to $7. We valet parked at the hotel (at least we felt our rental was a little more secure). The rental car never moved - we walked everywhere.

Saturday - the hotel was extremely busy with cruise ship participants and other large groups. Check-in was quick and easy! Sunday - Tuesday: we noticed there were less people in the hotel.
Room was great - we had a corner room with full windows from ceiling to floor with intracoastal and oceanviews. Mattress - we could feel the springs, but still had a good nights sleep. Refrigerator in the room, but no microwave. WiFi (Iphone) worked great downstairs, but would intermittently disconnect while we were in our room (maybe because we had a corner room?) Nothing overly fancy about the room, but it was comfortable, reasonable and had great views! Great beachfront hotel. If you want Luxury and want to pay 3 or 4 times more - there is a Ritz Carlton further up the beach.

BEACH was beautiful!!! Go to the Mezzanine level of the hotel to get to a small swimming pool, beautiful area to sit/lay out to catch some sunrays and outside bar. From the pool area, walk down a set of stairs and you can turn left and go directly to Bubba Gump Shrimp or Oasis Cafe (inexpensive breakfast bagels, croissants) OR cross the 2 lane street and you are ON THE BEACH!!

Restaurants we visited:
Coconuts - Across the street from the front of the hotel -- looks closed from the outside, but crab cake salad was terrific!!!
Quarterdecks - Sports bar with fair prices and decent food and Free Wi-Fi
LuLus Bair Shack - this place received great reviews, I thought it was ok. Food wasn't great, but the view of the beach was awesome!
Bubba Gump - close to the hotel and never a bad choice.
Oasis Cafe - small little cafe with outside seating. Serves breakfast all day. $5-8 for a breakfast bagel or croissant.
Don't forget the Jungle Queen Cruise - fun cruise and the All-u-can Eat BBQ and shrimp was actually good!

We enjoyed our Anniversary trip and can't wait to visit Fort Lauderdale and the Courtyard again.

Front desk attendants Servio and Mary was Excellent!!!

Room Tip: Mentioned at check-in that we were on an Anniversary trip. Booked Intracoastal room-received a corn...

We just recently (July 2011) stayed at Courtyard Beach hotel and liked it very much. We are two adults and two children and had a room with two very comfortable double beds. With a beautiful view of the yachts and city lights at night, our room offered a perfect place to sleep at night. During the day, we mostly stayed at the beach or cruised around the many waterways of Fort Lauderdale. We very much liked the great location right at the beach with many restaurants to choose from near-by. The only negative things about the hotel were the pool and the breakfast. The pool was very small and dirty. The water smelled disgusting and a layer of oil (suntan lotion) floated on top every day of our stay. The pool rules are not enforced and people go into the pool without showering off the suntan lotion, plus a lot of sand comes in from the beach-goers, making the overall appearance of the pool area really dirty. Plus we never had beach towels, they always seemed to be out of them. The breakfast is good at the hotel, but very expensive. There are cheaper places close-by that offer same quality for less money.

It seems like you enjoyed the surrounding area of the Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach and your accommodations. We have notified our pool management team to reemphasize with the staff the importance of enforcing the pool rules for everyone’s enjoyment. We would love to welcome you back in the future, where you can take advantage of our “Stay for Breakfast” package, including breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children each morning. Thank you for your review.

I really like this place for business travel. The rooms are clean and spacious. Every room that I have stayed in has a refrigerator, which is very convenient. The hotel is not small, but has an initimate "boutique like" feel. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodationg. Very easy place to stay. Fitness Center and pool are a little small, but meet my needs during work trips. I love the location right on A1A overlooking Ft Lauderdale beach, perfect for early morning runs. I typically book using my AAA card and get a rate that includes breakfast. The made to order omletes in the dining room are the best! I have heard other travelers complain about the valet fee. I find the valet convenient and friendly, most places in South Florida are expensive to park. There is a lot next door that is not run by the hotel where you can park if you do not choose to valet. I personally have never parked there. The only thing I can find lacking, is there are no balconies to enjoy the beautiful oceanfront views.

We are honored to be your 'go to' hotel for your business trips. It’s such a pleasure to learn that our returning guests have enjoyed their accommodations and the service provided by our staff at the Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach. Utilizing one of our many packages is a convenient way to make the most out of your stay at our hotel. The Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2008 and due to Hurricane Safety Standards, balconies were not added at that time. We appreciate your wonderful review and can’t wait to welcome you back next month.

The location is great! It is on a beautiful beach in an awesome newly developed area and is walking distance from all of the tour and aquatic activities. The staff could not have been more pleasant and friendly. The rooms are comfortable. The hotel is very clean. The pool was small but all of the pools in the area seem to be the same size. We enjoyed the pool deck that is just above the street and facing the beach. It has plenty of lounge chairs that have canopies. The area has a "strip" of very nice outdoor restaurants that are fun and safe and do not have the dirtiness or edge of South Beach.

Many nice features at this hotel. First, the views of the ocean and the bay are both lovely. The bay is especially nice at night. A beautiful part of the beach is directly across from the hotel. The windows in the hotel rooms do not open to balconies (years ago they did but I was told they came down with the last hurricane),

Sitting on the hotel terrace is very relaxing. The Tikki bar and food service on the terrace were fine. There is a small pool. For serious swimming, go to the incredible Hall of Fame Swimming Pool just down the street. The hotel was spotlessly maintained. There was a machine in the lobby that deodorized the area and emitted a perfumed smell which I did not care for. The staff were all extremely accommodating and friendly and recommended places to eat. The best was Coconuts, right across the street with seating overlooking the bay, where we ate several times--terrific fish, steak, drinks. This hotel is a nice low key place, best for its great views, well-maintained rooms, and relaxed non-fussy comfort.

It is the greatest compliment that we can receive to hear that a guest will be returning to the Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach. Coconuts Restaurant has always been a very popular place, with our guests and locals alike. We’re thrilled to see that you were able to experience some of the local attractions, like The Swimming Hall of Fame and our wonderful beach. It would be our pleasure to welcome you back in the future.

Right off the beach and on the main strip of restaurants, bars and shops. No need to pay for expensive hotels down the street when this has it all. However, the elevators should def be upgraded. The 3 elevators never worked at the same time and as a result, you spent way too much time waiting for them. Also, the pool deck area has NO shaded areas. They have one hut for shade and that's it. The only umbrellas that are there are for the tables ordering food. They also have half cabanna like beds but they do not block the sun completely. In the hot Florida heat, they should have a few more shady areas for people to cool off in. Pool was good. Its too bad they don't have a kiddie pool because at some times, the pool is overrun by children that are not disciplined. But overall, this is a great hotel. This is my second stay at this hotel and I look forward to many more visits.

Great location right on the beach. There are ample eating establishments and entertainment opportunities within walking distance. It is a great location for a short stay on FT Lauderdale Beach. I parked in the lot just north of the hotel for $15.00 a day. A better option then the valet for $28.00 plus tips every time you arrive or depart. The establishment was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel for those who want a nice hotel, right on the beach in the FT Lauderdale area.

Room Tip: Request Ocean View..
