“Great hotel and great value”
Reviewed December 6, 2009

Stopping to see our aging parents after a business trip to Santiago, Chile, we were looking for a convenient hotel between Miami Beach and Coconut Creek. My only criteria was that it needed to be near the beach. Being that this was not a vacation, we were looking for value as well as location.

We couldn't have been more pleased with our selection. The hotel is actually individually owned apartments and timeshares that are rented out. We stayed in a Junior suite that provided us a bedroom and adjoining living room (although not separated with a door). That area has a microwave, cooktop and small refrig. if you wanted to cook. Walking distance to many restaurants.

The hotel, which has only recently been opened, has higher end decorating than we would have expected for a Hilton. The views from our room included both the ocean as well as the Intercoastal. But the best part was the excellent sound proofing between rooms. Not until the last day (we stayed 6 nights) did we realize that we had 2 year old twins next door. The parents apologized profusely for the early morning wake-ups but we assured them we didn't hear a thing! If you want ocean front, you will have noise from the 1A1. Mid-way back provides excellent views. The W is next door and there was an outdoor wedding that kept the noise level high if you were on the balcony, but once you closed the hurricane doors, quiet prevailed.

The staff is gracious and helpful. The security is exceptional (not that the area needs it) but there are a lot of elder visitors staying there before cruises and the security guards makes sure they are where they want to be. The parking attendants couldn't have been more upbeat, helpful and courteous.

The pool on the 6th floor is adequate in size and the pool staff works hard to provide you with chaise loungers if at all possible (the deck is somewhat small given the size of the hotel). The beach is right across the street.

Our only complain would be that the restaurant needs help. The wait staff were great, the decor is nice and the food value is exceptional. If only the food tasted better! We talked to the food manager so hopefully that will be worked on soon.

All in all, a welcoming, comfortable hotel right in the center of things that, at least in November, was an exceptional value. I'd highly recommend it!

We are NOT talking about a luxury hotel with wellness, spa and gourmet kitchen... this is probably the reason for some negative reviews...
However this property came up to MY expectations, even more.
The appartment was huge, with separate bedroom with TV, big fully equipped kitchen, spacious living room with TV, bathroom with bathtub, seperate bathroom (only toilet and sink). Not all appartments have a seperate bathroom, though. We had to move after a few days and the one we had first did not have a seperate toilet.
It was perfect for 4 people like we were.
Naturally, you can tell it is not a new building, but there was nothing that really bothered us. The staff was really nice, they have a concierge and a customer service where you can make tour reservations, get discount coupons or water taxi tickets.
Plus, they offer free parking, the only thing to be paid on location is the safe ($ 10/week).

As far as the hotel environment, there is nothing you have to be afraid of.
Ok, the area right in front of the hotel is not exactly the nicest one, that's true.
A few tattoo shops and bars we did not visit, so no comment about that.
We went to the Monkey bar attached to the hotel lobby, which is ok, a simple american
bar with happy hour every night - that means cheap drinks!
You can walk to the next water taxi stop by the Galleryone Doubletree hotel (10 min), the Galleria Mall (15 min) and also to the beach (3 min) and some restaurants and bars alongside the beachfront street. However, a walk all the way to the harbor and downtown area takes you 30-40 min as the hotel is located in the northern part of Fort Lauderdale.
We had a car, which I would recommend for every US-visit anyway!

My personal restaurant recommendation in walking distance is P.F.Cheng by the Galleria Mall entrance. Great food at affordable prices. The sesame chicken was awesome and so was the rest! :-)

For all of us it was a great vacation, we would definitely come back!

The hotel is nice and convenient. You can walk to nearby restaurants or to the beach. Fort Lauderdale Beach is about 2 minutes walking distance from the hotel lobby. It's also near Downtown Fort Lauderdale bars and nightlife. The pool bar had daily specials and inexpensive. The food at the pool was pretty good too. The hotel is relatively quiet. We had no hassles whatsoever during our stay. We will definitely go back.

My husband and I just returned from a three night Labor Day Weekend stay at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort off of Breakers Avenue and Birch Road. The waterfront side entrance of the hotel leads you onto a really seedy plaza full of tatoo parlors and tobacco shops. This plaza is by far the worst plaza of any of the beach side (A1A) shopping areas and walking there past 9:00pm can get kind of hairy. The beach area that the hotel is closest too is also not one of the nicer beach areas, and has quite a few bums by the entrance (as well as the area's immediately surrounding the hotel).

Besides the horrible location, the service was also horrible. When we checked in, despite having the reservation paper in our hand, they told us they weren't sure if we had a reservation. In the meantime while they determined if we had a reservation, they complained about another guest. They were unable to provide information on good restaurants, activities, etc...To top it off when we checked out we told them the safe was broken and we were unable to use it during our entire stay, they said they could not refund the automatic $2.50/day safe charge.

Our room was a studio, which basically was a standard hotel room except the hall was turned into a stovetop area/sink and small standard hotel size refrigerator. The door literally had one inch betweeen the deadbolt in the door and the kitchen sink if the door was open. Our view was on the canal/intercoastal side, which is acutally no intercoastal unleass you're on the 10th floor, and only a glimpse of the a canal. Many of the views on the canal side don't even offer a view of canal, unless you're on the 10th or higher floor, and then it would be a distant view. We laughed to oursevles everytime we came into the hotel and said never again.

I suggest finding a small boutique hotel (and their are plenty) that provides good water views...probably for the same or less cost.

This place is barely better than a motel! This was our first timeshare exchange and we were very disappointed. The elevators and hallways smelled horrible, the walls of the room are paper thin, there is no maid service all week, the room was extremely small, there was no wireless in the rooms, there is no restaurant in the resort, the attached Monkey Bar is a ripoff. The resort is in a poor neighborhood that is not safe to walk at night.

I definitely don't reccommend this resort. The room was nice enough for 2 people, but it claims to fit 6. I have no idea how 6 people would be able to sleep comfortably in the room we had. Our view was great, but I heard from other guests that if you had a room on the other side you were overlooking alleys and dumpsters. The staff was INCREDIBLY rude. I have never been treated so badly by hotel staff members. Afterall, it is their job to be hospitable, and they were anything but that. Not only did they give us wrong information, but they were incredibly rude in doing so. I had a small issue and when I addressed the manager, not only was she unwilling to help, but she yelled at me claiming it was all my fault and I shouldn't have bothered her. They leave an envelope in the room to tip the housekeepers, yet no one came to clean the room. The pool and pool bar was marginial, nothing special. No wi-fi or internet connection in the room!!!! You have to go down to the lobby where usually other people are sitting on their laptops, so good luck finding an open spot. They do have a lobby computer, but it's always being used! The 2 elevators that they have are so small, one person can barely fit in it with a luggage rack. Plus, 2 elevators for a high rise building= RIDICULOUS!

My family and I just returned from a week stay at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale Florida. By family I mean my husband and myself, plus our 8 year old son, 16 year old niece and 19 year old nephew. We stayed in a 2br 2ba unit, which was actually a 1br and a studio. The accomodations were very large. We felt we had plenty of room, even with two messy teenagers in the mix. The unit was clean and well maintained, with plenty of amenities. The onsight restaurant/bar was marginal. Typical bar fare. Some of the staff seemed to be having difficulty, but in fairness to them, it is my understanding that the place has only recently opened so they are still working out the kinks. They were all friendly and attentive, just seemed a little overwhelmed. Our unit was on the back side of the resort, so we had a view of the alley and a trash dumpster, which wasn't the best, but we didn't go there to hang out on the balcony. However, the kids did get a kick out of watching the raccoons rumage around in the trash in the pre-dawn hours so I guess it wasn't a total bust!

There were resort sponsored activities every day. My husband and nephew went on a fishing trip one day, and we all made tye-dye t-shirts another. The activities Director was very nice and very patient that day. There were a lot of people, mostly younger children, and he was great with everyone.

We ate at several area restaurants while there and particularly enjoyed Dewey's Catfish, Aruba Beach Cafe, and a little mexican restaurant right around the corner from the resort. (the name escapes me at the moment!) All were very good with reasonable prices and good portions, and very friendly staff.

Overall, our trip was very enjoyable. The area is kind of in transition, but we never felt unsafe. We let our niece and nephew walk around the neighborhood and to the beach by themselves without worry. I think it will only get better with time. There were many restaurants and shops within walking distance. My husband and nephew walked to Las Olas Blvd. for a fishing trip with ease. However, the most enjoyable part was of course the beach! We would definitely return to this resort again.
