“Service improvements needed.”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

Positives - location, some staff are very kind and genuine.

Situation:

Hotel needs a PBX operator! Multiple calls were made with no answer. I understand it's a smaller hotel but even small hotels need to have someone dedicated to the phone. Calling a business and getting no answer is huge deterrent for me, and I am sure others as well.

brunch - expensive, Food and Beverage Brunch staff from wait staff to management need improvement. Wait time in between requested drinks; Multiple reminders had to be given. For price, where is the bottle of champagne for mimosas? It's a terrible premixed concoction not worth sipping/same for Bloody Mary.

Valet needs serious help. I will give a kind note to one of the valet staff (I know that it was NOT the valet supervisor). Valet supervisor did not explain about the 2 hour restaurant validation. When requested to get car all that was said was that it's $12 - when I though it was $3 (and the previous person paid $3 but were there longer than me). I feel an explanation could have been given. Continued to request my car but supervisor never went to get it. When approached after 3 other cars came, I stated "what's going on with my car?" His response: "you still have to pay $12". Again, a statement that should not have been said. All that was needed was a quick explanation of the reason for the price. I can afford $12 but want to know why I am paying it.

Final Note: service can be improved a lot.

Traveled with sister via Travelocity great rates. The pictures were true to reality for this hotel. We were welcomed warmly from the moment we walked into the hotel. Tiki was helpful with everything from hotel questions, dining and local events. Housekeeping and other staff were friendly no matter what time of day. Our ocean view suite was warm and welcoming (loved it). We will return with spouses. Only minor thing was parking we used meters because we were in and out. Valet is an option but pricey $24 overnight.

Pelican Grand Resort
Few minor issues
We booked via Spirit Airlines and there were no option to upgrade the room to an ocean view at the time of booking. After booking we immediately e-mailed the hotel and inquired if we could upgrade our room to an ocean view. No reply. Upon arrival, we did ask again for an ocean view but there were no one available by that time.
More over, the front desk could not find our reservation! (as they explained Spirit Airlines did not submit our reservation to the hotel. Apparently, there are communication problems).
After waiting for half an hour they finally were able to find our reservation and we were able to get into our room. The room was pretty basic but spacious and clean. The bed was comfy. TV remote control was not working but they fixed it right away. The balcony was a bit dirty with the stains on the balcony furniture. But it was not a big deal, as we were not planning on using it (the room was facing busy road, so it was very noisy on the balcony and we could smell the odor of gas from passing cars and motorcyclists)
The hotel is directly on the beach, which is nice. But the stairs on the way to the beach are broken, so you have to make a detour and walk through the pool area and then on the narrow tiny road.
The beach is clean. Free umbrellas and chairs on the beach.
The hotel lobby (1st floor) is quite nicel and hotel staff is generally polite and friendly.
It was our 4th visit to Fort Lauderdale and we stayed before at Ritz Carlton, Hilton, and Westin. Those 3 hotels are close to each other, so if you are staying in one of them, you can enjoy all 3 restaurants (and many other restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries in a walking distance). The Pelican Grand is a bit secluded. If you are looking for a quiet place, Pelican Grand’s location is perfect. But if you would like livelier atmosphere and more food choices in walking distance, then consider something else.
Overall, we had very enjoyable vacation!

My husband just returned form our 4 night trip to Pelican Grand on the Fort Lauderdale Beach. We had the planned this stay as part of our 35th wedding anniversary trip. We loved the Pelican and had the most relaxing long week-end. We stayed in a corner ocean view room on the 2nd floor. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a king bed and well equipped bathroom. It also had a huge balcony that overlooked the beach, I would have spent alot more time on it and wished it had a couple lounge chairs but it only had 2 small plastic chairs and a little side table.
They whole resort was beautiful and very clean but the best part was the staff who worked there, they were very friendly and accommadating. The waitresses in the restaurant were always nice and friendly. The front dresk people including Aaron the manager went beyond our expectations to help in anyway they could. We were extremely impressed with Nathan who worked out by the the pool everyday we were there, as he was always ready to assist in anything we needed to make our stay special, but it wasn't just us he did this for, he really cares about every guest staying at the resort. We thought he was one of the resorts greatest assets.
We really took advantage of the beautiful porch that over looked the beach with the rocking chairs on it, for us it was a perfect place to chill out at the end our evenings.
We have decided this is our new favorite resort and are looking forward to our next visit back.

Room Tip: Highly recommend the corner ocean view rooms. the 2nd floor has a huge Balcony to view the beach.

My husband and I and friends Just returned from a five night stay at the Pelican Grand. It was wonderful. The hotel is just the way Florida should be. Very relaxing. Good food. Great ocean views. No waiting for beach chair. The staff was friendly from the moment we arrived. The front desk was so pleasant. We had one issue with our room and it was resolved within Minutes. Breakfast on the long white porch over looking the ocean wonderful. Sitting late at night on the rocking chairs on the porch hearing to the ocean wonderful. We were in an ocean front room with great views. The rooms are clean and the maid service again wonderful. I would recommend renting a car. We did and it was well worth having. If you get a chance we found the best restaurant it's called Greek Island it's a five minute drive. The best meal ever look for the blue sign. My husband and I have been to the islands many time we really enjoyed this trip. I rate it wonderful.

This was our 1st anniversary vacation and 1st time in Fort Lauderdale. The hotel was very clean, and the staff was friendly and professional. The hotel is directly on a nice beach, which is private, and a big plus is that the lounge chairs, umbrellas, and towels are included in the price. Eating on the nice veranda was very relaxing.
I would certainly recommend the hotel to others, but keep in mind, that you will need to take taxis, drive a rental, or take the trolley or water taxi because there is not many restaurants, shops, or bars in close proximity to the hotel. We had no luck with the trolley, but we walked or took a taxi to the Chart House to catch the water taxi which will take you to most of the popular areas in Fort Lauderdale.

This is the 2nd time we've used this location to spend a couple of nights..the staff (from the minute I booked with Andrew to front door man, Jerry, to the ladies cleaning the room, to the pool guys, to the bartenders) were all exceptional...they made us feel comfortable and took care of our every need.
