We are locals here in Fort Lauderdale and even though there are a lot of good restaurants, the prices are very high for people who eat out a lot. But we stumbled on El Tarmarindo Cafe and have been very pleased.
We have eaten here twice and will be returning for our third visit tomorrow night, taking guest with us. Great food, friendly waiters, comforatable dinning area. Only thing about it is that it is so far away from where we are on Fort Lauerdale Beach, but well worth the drive.
On our first visit we had the skirt steak, very good. Great flan as dessert. On the second visit we had the seafood paella which was also good, but my favorite still remains as the steak. The red beans and rice are delicious. And the Sangria is the best I have had in South Florida.
The wierd thing about Fort Lauderdale is that we do not have any great Cuban restuarants. We use to go to Mario's, but since they moved to Federal, the food and service have suffered and the prices have increased.
Although El Tararindo is more Central and South American than Cuban, it does a good job filling the gap.
Hope they can sitck around.
