“A Gem of a Beachfront Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

I researched a lot of places on the water in Fort Lauderdale. Sun Tower was rated very highly and our experience confirmed that rating. This is a small (24 room 6 story) hotel. The hotel is right on the beach adjacent to the just built Pelican Beach Resort. Our stay was made extra special because of the friendly and personalized service. We booked an second floor end room which is technically a suite. On arrival we were upgraded to the 5th floor. The suite has a King size bed, living room, small kitchen and bath. The ocean view was fantastic and our small deck has two chairs and a table. The unit had two flat screen tv’s, coffee maker, refrig and a microwave. So if you wanted to have meals at unit it was no problem. Publix market was a short driver away. We rented a small car for week but you could rent bicycles from a kiosk adjacent to hotel. I think they were also motorized.
The beach was right there and staff would give you towels, and setup chaise lounges and umbrella. The hotel has an elevator and a small heated pool that was a joy to swim and sun bathe. The hotel has free wifi in lobby and at pool. Wifi in rooms is a $5/day charge. They also have a pc workstation and printer in lobby convenient for printing boarding passes. My wife was thrilled with unit that I had picked out. One of the nice things I got from front desk was that the pelican Resort next door has an ice cream shop $3 for a large cone, a bargain. Also a plus is the integral Sand Bar Grill which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and has happy hour specials. Food particularly the burgers and salads were our favorites. Highly recommended if you like small quiet and cozy hotel.

Room Tip: The corner suites may be an extra $25 but worth it. There are only 12 such units so book early. I w...

I have been coming to this hotel for about 25 years and my wife about 35 years. It is one of our favorites for many reasons: the service (personal and attentive), the location (on the beach, central and near, but not on, the strip), the views (beautiful ocean views) and the pool (warm and close). The rooms have been updated since our last stay and were wonderful and clean. The parking is tight near the popular beach, but staff really worked to ensure that we were not inconvenienced. Wonderful stay. --We also had breakfast at the diner restaurant and the staff did a great job at very reasonable prices for overlooking the ocean.

Room Tip: all are good but my feeling is the higher the better.

This hotel is right on the beach so if you are a beach lover this is the place for you. Our room was very comfortable and a decent size with a mini-fridge and microwave (very convenient). The balcony was small (only seats two) but when the beach is only feet away a small balcony is no problem at all. The room is so close to the beach you can hear the waves washing up on shore... Wonderful way to awaken in the morning and doze off to sleep at night. The hotel staff was ultra friendly and helpful. The heated pool was great too! We will definitely stay here again (hopefully soon)!

Room Tip: Choose a beach room if you love the ocean and hearing the waves!

I am a hotelier and had booked another hotel in the outskirts of the beach for a much lower rate but miles from beach! Looked on Hotels.com, read the reviews and called the hotel directly- Chris was awesome he immediately sold me and I booked! Was I surprised! All I can say is the view, level of service and product made my last day of vacation memorable! We will be back!

The pros: Location is amazing! You can't get closer to the beach. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating - from the front desk, to the guys on the beach (thank you Colby and Frank) setting up beach chairs and umbrellas. We didn't spend too much time at the cafe/restaurant but when we did everyone was great! We stayed in one of the top floor suites which had fantastic views and was very spacious for us and our 5 year old. King bed in unit was comfortable. Parking and beach chairs are free which is rare for the area (we've stayed at the Marriott Beach place and W hotel down the street and had to pay for beach chair rentals and valet). Boogie boards and swimming noodles are available for use as well. In room wifi is available for $5/day. A steal compared to $19.95/day next door at the Grand Pelican.

The cons: Pool is small. Laundry "room" needs some TLC. Felt very dirty. Lots of flies which freaked me out. Bathroom in the suite needs to be renovated. It's old and pretty cramped. There was a large hole, crack in the bottom of the tub (on the outside). Housekeeping was fair. Hotel provided fresh linens and towels daily, but the bathroom mirror, counters, glass table and coffee table in the unit were never wiped down. We found an old beer cap on the floor from a previous guest. Air conditioner units in the room are noisy and older and could use a cleaning.

Room Tip: Highly recommend a suite on the 6th floor so no one is walking around above you. If you require a ro...

I hate to say how much I love this hotel... I want to keep it for myself. THE BEST staff that I have encountered in a long time. The location is nice... the beach is beautiful and the hotel itself is so clean and comfortable.... This is my second trip here and already booked my stay for 2015... will probably try and come once more this fall. The food is great and Mike "Hippie" Sinasac makes a great white sangria...

Room Tip: very clean and comfortable rooms...

We stayed at Sun Tower before and after a cruise. The first room we had was a suite. It was excellent - spacious, clean oceanfront room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool area very nice among the palm trees. Restaurant was very good. Outdoor seating on the ocean. Great service, reasonable prices. Food excellent. On our return visit, we had a king room. Not as nice as the suite but fine. Room was not as clean. There was a hole in the wall by the sliding glass door. When we looked over the balcony, someone had been sick on the ledge below. This did not give us a great feeling but we know this would not be the norm. In any case, we enjoyed our stay here and would return. Great value on the beach in a more residential and quiet area.

Room Tip: Get a suite. Suites are on the corner with extra windows. Beautiful room with separate bedroom and l...
