“Best Greek In Town”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

I am a regular visitor to Ft. Lauderdale, and always stop here for at least one meal. The place is always packed, I try to show up at around 6ish to avoid the line up. Everything sampled is always good, but the 2 stand-outs for me, are the grilled octopus and the lamb chops. I have tried the recently opened Thasos, and was not impressed. Stick to the Greek Islands Taverna, you just cannot go wrong.

“Best Greek restaurant in S. Fla.”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

I've eaten here about 20 times. FABULOUS. The shrimp dishes are scrumptious. The avgolemeno soup is awe inspiring. The moussaka is a marvel. The grilled octopus in olive oil is oct-standing. The grilled chicken for lunch with 2 sides is one of the best deals in town. Ooh, I'm salivating.

“Yummy Greek food in quiet neighborhood”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

We were visiting Ft. Lauderdale from Jacksonville, Fla., last week, and decided to eat somewhere close to our hotel( Il Lugano- see my review) because it was storming. It was a rainy Sunday night, around 8 PM, and Greek Islands was packed!!
It was busy, loud, charming, and filled with happy, laughing customers. We had Calamari, Spinach Pie ( made with crust instead of filo) Moussaka, and a large Greek Salad. Everything was yummy, and I felt like we were actually in Greece. The service was speedy, and it appeared that there were alot of locals there. A fun spot! (I had my left overs the next day for a snack with some wine-just as good then)

“Good Greek food / crowded place”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

This place was pretty crowded (Friday evening) so the only table available was not in a good spot. Challenge accepted ...

We started with tzatziki and grilled octopus. The octopus was excellent, tzatziki was good (but oddly enough it didn't come with pita).

Main course consisted of lamb chops and souvlaki. Portions were generous and overall the food was good. The large Greek salad we ordered was huge but quite bland.

For dessert we tried the "galatkoboureka" and the "kataifi" but we were not impressed at all: both were heavily covered in cinnamon powder which overpowered the expected taste and aroma.

Service was great.

Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

This place is worth the long lines!
The food is amazing, the service astounding and if you don't get a second break basket with hummus there's something wrong with you!
Kebabs and kekrazy good.
Appetizers are large and their seafood makes you c food and want it!
Go, now!
