“Most Enjoyable Walk along the Esplanade in Ft. Lauderdale!”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

If you are walking this Venue, you must enjoy both exercise, your Female Companion, and the many Restaurants and small shops that dot the perimeter of the walkway--known as the Esplanade. This area is well maintained. Portions of it should be walked at night either with one of the Locals--of which I am one, or during day time hours--under the gaze of local Police and the Oak trees that provide some relief from Mid-Day/Mid Afternoon Sun. This path will take you to the Broward Center for Performing Arts--where it is possible to combine a Weekend stroll, a Meal and a Performance. This area compares favorably to the San Antonio River Walk area--except that area has more upscale shops. This Venue is far more open than the Texas River Area in the fact that the River here is much wider and the perspectives are therefore greater. One thing that might improve the River experience would be some of the Gondolas that make the San Antonio experience stand out! Enjoy!

“Either by water or walking along the esplande”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Either going up the New River by boat or walking along the esplanade is always so pretty and enjoyable - really makes you like Fort Lauderdale and understand that it is the boating capital.
Plenty of restaurants and bars to stop off at.

if you do the walk from Las Olas to Broward Arts center its pretty shaded by oak trees, winding paved path, see the boats, pass by the Stranahan house.

“New River & Riverwalk”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

I agree with one of the other posters that the river itself is not really an attraction I'd put on my list if I were a tourist. But being a local we do (and would recommend) taking a stroll along this river, say beginning from the performing arts center East to Riverwalk or even further on to Las Olas. Unfortunately the Riverwalk center is pretty much all but gone, almost all shops & restaurants have closed, a real shame. But there is still a great Irish Pub open there where you can stop at along the short walk for a refreshment or lunch. Also, there is a wonderful jazz festival that takes place on Sunday once a month (believe it's the 1st Sunday of every month?) at the gazebo's along the river from the performing arts center over to Riverwalk. You can bring a picnic basket, chair and your pet!!

“It's got water...and boats...and ------”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

BORING! It's a narrow little river (don't know why it's called "New" but would hate to see "old")
There are luxury boats moored at various places.
There once were some interesting restaurants, but Florida's wreck of an economy has left too many of these places shuttered ... at least back in 2012.
Have no idea what it's like recently as have no urge to find out. Just thinking about it makes me yawn!

...just what you expect from oceanfront areas - big yachts, small fisher boats, gorgeous foliage...beautiful layout, and gorgeous homes and buildings!
