“New River & Riverwalk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

I agree with one of the other posters that the river itself is not really an attraction I'd put on my list if I were a tourist. But being a local we do (and would recommend) taking a stroll along this river, say beginning from the performing arts center East to Riverwalk or even further on to Las Olas. Unfortunately the Riverwalk center is pretty much all but gone, almost all shops & restaurants have closed, a real shame. But there is still a great Irish Pub open there where you can stop at along the short walk for a refreshment or lunch. Also, there is a wonderful jazz festival that takes place on Sunday once a month (believe it's the 1st Sunday of every month?) at the gazebo's along the river from the performing arts center over to Riverwalk. You can bring a picnic basket, chair and your pet!!

“It's got water...and boats...and ------”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

BORING! It's a narrow little river (don't know why it's called "New" but would hate to see "old")
There are luxury boats moored at various places.
There once were some interesting restaurants, but Florida's wreck of an economy has left too many of these places shuttered ... at least back in 2012.
Have no idea what it's like recently as have no urge to find out. Just thinking about it makes me yawn!

...just what you expect from oceanfront areas - big yachts, small fisher boats, gorgeous foliage...beautiful layout, and gorgeous homes and buildings!

“There are many beautiful yachts on this river”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

The New River originates in the Everglades and flows east. The mouth of the New River is located north of Port Everglades and south of Las Olas Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The river is a big part of Fort Lauderdale with many restaurants and shops along the river. There are many beautiful yachts on this river.

“Stroll along the river”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

This small river passes through downtown Fort Lauderdale and played an important part in the development of the city. It can be visited by boat or by walking along the path at the side. Both allow you an opportunity to see some great real estate, visit the historical village or just while away an hour or so watching the world go by. There were some beggars but they kept to themselves. On the first Sunday of the month enjoy free jazz concerts as you stroll along.
