“Needs Improvement”

We took Riverwalk from the beginning at the boat anchorage and marina to Stranahan House. It is a relatively short walk with some detours away from the river along some hoardings and them back again. You cannot pass along the Riverside Hotel, so the path takes a final cut along SE 5th Avenus to Las Olas. I would like to see it much longer but private property along the river blocks it. The recession has closed some venues, especially bars and restaurants near SW 4th Avenue. Enjoy the water, big boats parked along the riverfront and the green space. Restaurants along the river and Las Olas are quite expensive, so it could be a good day to take a picnic. Ft Lauderdale Trolley service runs near the riverwalk so you could be dropped off and picked up at different locations. There are many cultural activities taking place in this space, so it might be more interesting to plan a visit when there are some planned activities.

“Gateway to the "Venice" of Florida”

Rent a boat (used to be very nice electric boats for rent) or ride the water taxi to see gorgeous mansions/homes/yachts and an occasional giant iguana.

“Living River”
Reviewed December 27, 2011

The river is easily accessible from many of the hundreds of canals that make this city the Venice of America. We can take our tiny boat from our dock on one of these canals and make our way past many more canals toward the downtown riverfront entertainment district. We pass many magnificent houses and numerous megayachts to some great waterfront restaurants. If we are lucky, we can even see manatees in winter months.
