While checking out Las Olas Blvd on a vacation trip, we happened upon the cafe. The actual place is tucked back behind a alley-like portal, which leads to a cute outdoor courtyard. We initially sat outside, but as the waiter described their wine system, we decided to go inside, play with the wine, and enjoy the air conditioning while we ate.
The wine system is really fun. They have 10 automated dispensing units, with 4 bottles in each. You buy a smart card for $2.50, then you pay $20 (or more) to put a balance on the card. You then insert the card into the dispenser, and select either a taste, a half glass, or a full glass. The wine shoots into your glass, and the card balance is reduced accordingly. If the bottle empties while your wine is dispensing, no worries - your card is charged only for the wine dispensed!
If you want to take home a particular wine that you enjoyed in the cafe, they sell full bottles at a pretty reasonable retail rate. You can also open the bottle in the cafe, with only a $10 markup. That's better than the markup you get in most restaurants.
Oh...we also had food there! Our sandwiches were big, fresh, and quite good. Service was prompt and friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with the folks there.
We know that when we return to Ft. Lauderdale in the future, we'll definitely be stopping back at the wine cafe!
