I live a bit south in nearby Hollywood and, in my opinion, Ft Lauderdale for a large city does not have a lot of exceptional restaurants.
OB House consistently is at the top of my list of places to eat well. My husband gave me a small surprise birthday lunch there last year.
Ingredients and preparation are top quality; an on-site owner and son strive to monitor the entire operation from staffing to menu to decor. OB House is a real 'find' in this city. Likely that once you've tried, it you'll be back.
Yes, the hours are breakfast to late lunch and we all wish that Rodney would bring back dinner service which he briefly tried. Nevertheless, the menu has so many good offerings made fresh daily that it is always hard to pick what to eat; am I in the mood for breakfast items or lunch?
Anything with the fresh grilled mahi fishI love--mac and cheese w/salad, the fish stew, the omelet with fish, grilled fish with the enormous cobb or corn/fruit salad….and that only scratches the surface. Homemade muffins and cupcakes, a fabulous 'oven baked' pancake with or without corn but always with the freshest butter and maple syrup, a variety of breads that Rodney developed and has made fresh for only the restaurant, burgers, steak, grits, oven potatoes….you get the picture.
Very cute interior seating. Outdoor seating w/umbrellas is lovely almost year round, and you are across the street from the river promenade.
Only negative is the weekend brunch crowd and the likely wait (staff will serve you a mimosa and has an outdoor bench for waiting)….. so I am likely to go weekdays or a late or very early weekend brunch.
